Anyone with experience of this and has encountered any problems?
What sort of financial grief can one expect when they do their vehicle inspection?
Are there any experts that can accompany one during this process?

Take a look at the mileage allowance in your lease. If you have exceeded it there will be a surcharge as specified in the agreement. Make sure that everything leased with the car (e.g. winter tires, safety triangle, first aid kit) is returned along with the car. For the hell of it, have it inspected at your own expense first so the leasing company doesn't pull a fast one on you claiming repairs for wear and tear.

I've had several lease cars here, in fact I'm about to return one at the end of the week and have never had any real problems. I've always leased mine through the manufacturers, private leasing companies may be different. The only costs I've every incurred were the charge for the extra kilometers I'd driven, which as Sarabyrd says is laid out in the lease contract, and I had to pay for a TÜV with my last Volkswagen as the car was 3 years old. Strangely Audi didn't ask for this. If you have done less than the agreed kilometers you should be entitled to some money back, check your leasing agreement. Minor damage such as stone chips and parking dents have always been accepted as normal wear and tear. If the company does try to screw you you can always insist on an independent inspection by a guy known as a Gutachter. Take the car back clean and shiny inside and out, this always makes a good impression.
