Since 2002 the Community of Haar on the Eastern side of Munich has been the top venue for people seeking to buy good-quality second-hand English books and media. More than 8,000 books changed hands in the first five years, leading to a net profit of over €10,000 for our Indian charity. On behalf of “Calcutta Rescue“ we would like to thank all our book donors and customers for their generous support.

Unfortunately the 2007 Booksale had to be cancelled due to a shortage of volunteers, but here’s the good news:

The next English Booksale in Haar will take place on

Saturday, 21st June, 2008
from 11a.m. to 5 p.m.
in the Community Rooms (Gemeindehaus) of the Lutheran Church ”Jesuskirche”
Waldluststraße 34, 85540 Haar

Once again, you can expect to find a large selection of English novels, children’s books, magazines, videos, cassette tapes and DVDs. As a novelty this year, we will also offer you cups of freshly brewed coffee and home-made African mandazi and muffins in the basement of the Community Centre, and there will be child-minding facilities for customers with children.

The main organiser is the Lutheran Youth in Haar. The entire proceeds from the sale of the books will go to the “Ilembula” project in Tanzania, which the Jesuskirche Haar has sponsored for the past 20 years. It includes facilities for children orphaned through Aids, improvement of school and training centres, the development of solar energy, as well as special projects helping women and young girls in everyday life. In order to continue the good work of the past years, we once again need your book donations! So if you have any English books, tapes or other media which are still in good condition, you can pass them on to us and we will put them on sale for “Ilembula” on June 21st.

The collection point for all your donations is the canopied veranda of the Lutheran Community Centre (Gemeindehaus der Jesuskirche), Waldluststraße 34, Haar – to the right of the bell tower. The gate is not closed, 24/7 access to the veranda via the wooden stairs.

Collection takes place between 26th May and 13th June, 2008.

For your orientation we enclose a small map, which also shows up the parking facilities in the vicinity of Jesuskirche.
