Where in Germany did you go? I was commenting to my husband how fit the majority of Germans appear to be. Everyone's cycling everywhere and I saw loads of people jogging and roller blading. Yeah you get the odd fat bastard, but I thought they seemed to be pretty healthy-looking. Now, the dress-sense...

I went to NRW, to a smaller city, reasonably ok economy. It's true that you see many people cycling, though not everyone and no more than in my hometown here in Canada, but many of those on bicycles are quite heavy as well.

... many Germans have very strong opinions about Americans and Canadians being 'fat' - hypocrites ...

THE OBESITY EPIDEMIC IN CANADA ...

The numbers in this article don't mean anything without comparable data from Germany. Besides, I was referring to my own observation. And yes, if a beer-bellied German dude makes a general statement about Canadians being 'fat', that makes him a hypocrite.

bandida, I did not know you had to be perfect to criticize others. It does not make you a hypocrite as long as you do not claim to be perfect.
Obesity is a problem in many countries of the world, the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and Germany as well (and others). Are only thin people allowed to point that out?

There is a quite decent sandwich place here in Stuttgart called San's sandwich bar. They do UK-style sandwiches. You can also get soups, muffins, fresh juices, smoothies and desserts like greek yoghurt there. Maybe they have something similar in Munich?

The kind of 'criticism' I'm referring to is not pointing out the increasing obesity rates in western countries, because that's not what it usually is, but self-righteous, general, stereotyping paired with insults of the populations of other countries.

All I did was state my observations - I can't change what I saw and what I'm seeing here at home. Maybe all our obese people live out west and that's why I don't see them? And maybe all obese Germans congregated in NRW? Who knows? Besides, many of these statistics are flawed anyways, since most rely on self-reporting.

Just to revive a thread to help a bit of pointless name calling and such forth. I was in munich yesterday to do some errands. Now on my way out I usually stop at an indian grocery store to pick up some interesting things and a samosa (at one euro a piece they are quite nice). However after getting caught up in the whole debacle that was the alx and s1 line out of munich yesterday I decided I needed fortification and so I popped into the yorma at the hbf to grab a bottle of water. When to my sudden shock I almost ran into a cooler especially for sandwiches. Now thinking a salami sandwich might be quite nice I looked in and to my unbelieving eyes what did I see; sandwiches of many different varieties! The first one that caught my notice was a tandoori sandwich, bacon and egg sandwich and tuna sandwich! I had to search for my salami sandwich and run away before I got infected with craziness!

Funilly enough i thought of this thread yesterday when out at lunchtime when LOW! HARK! BEHOLD! I passed a load of office workers sat outside eating a sandwich and drinking a bottle of soft drink!

How do brownies become world famous?

If you found the answer, let me know, else wait for few years to hear it from the horse's mouth tongue.gif

How did they get all the way to Boots and back in their lunch break?

My local Plus sells sandwiches now for €1.49. Not a hugely varied selection; tuna & sweetcorn, salami and cheese, ham and egg. But it's a start, cheap and convenient.
