back in England i was a massive fan of the £2.99 Boots Meal deal. would always go for the triple chicken pack (its a school boy error to stupidly go for just two sandwiches for the same price), diet coke with lemon and one of those beautiful brownies. would sometimes switch to the suisi if i wanted to impress my work mates.
its seems that berlin doesnt seem to have these kind of offers. plus the sandwiches are normally rubbish (ham, cheese or ham and cheese anyone).
does anyone know of anywhere i can pick something like this up?

p.s. i refuse to buy from Subway so please dont surgest them

You posted this in the wrong place sweety

The only thing I can think of right now is Subway, but that's probably because you just suggested them!
BritGirl
Good luck with that, I reckon you won't find anything remotely similar. Nice packaged sandwiches are non existent, as are any kind of "deal" in a supermarket!!!
Editor Bob
That's not quite true, BritGirl. Rewe supermarkets do nicely packaged sandwiches. They have Mexican chicken, bacon and egg, and others. No meal deal though.
sarabyrd
Bäckerei Wimmer in Munich's Zweibrückenstrasse have a lunch deal: A large triangle of pita bread (if I recall correctly) filled with cream cheese/chives, tuna or Mexican veggies and turkey along with a bottle of Coke/Fanta/water for about €3.60. I'm not sure if their other branches (e.g. Leopoldstrasse) have it but I should think so.

The Mexican one was very tasty and not without a certain envigorating spicyness.

EDIT: Of course, I just saw that the OP is in Berlin. Cast around, I'm sure you will find something even in the wilds of the capital.

Plus and Lidl do prepacked sandwiches

Happy Meals are pretty cheap and you get a toy! Bet you don't get a toy with your booty meals. tongue.gif
MonksTown
Aldi have pre packed sandwiches as well.
Katrina
Seeing as you're in Berlin, Dunkin' Donuts. Although looking at their doughnuts makes my teeth hurt.
rick_de
Dunkin Donuts! OK if you want to end up with a supersized butt.

Some of the Tankstellen also do packaged sandwiches. But again the choice tends to be between Schinken-Käse oder Käse-Schinken. Or alternatively Thunfisch.
Small Town Boy
The Germans don't really do sandwiches because it's more common to have a hot meal at lunchtime. Maybe it's time to adapt.
leeza
San Francisco Coffee Company does pretty good sandwiches. Not a meal-deal, but fine for a quick pick-me-up. But they are pretty American-style sandwiches, which may not appeal to a Brit's taste, not sure.

There are several locations of SFCC in Munich. Google map it if you like.

EDIT: Doh! You are in Berlin. SFCC didn't show up there, hard to believe but true I guess. Hard to believe because there are 9 in Munich.

You could try Marks and Spencers in Cologne. I am sure they do that sort of stuff... Oh hang on wait... shit, I was looking in a Yellow Pages from 1995.. Doh
ezied

JESUS FUCKING WEPT!

There are half a dozen places, if not a dozen within five to ten minutes walk of my office that have some kind of lunchtime deal on cooked dinners between 6 and 10 Euros: Indian, Turkish, Italian, Thai, Bavarian, Vietnamese, Japanese, Südtirol, Mexican, Greek, whatever.
If You REALLY need that prepacked sandwich, we've a PLUS and and Aldi nearby and halleh-fucking-jujah: There's a SUBWAY! ohmy.gif

As STB pointed out and you MIGHT have learnt in school if you had paid attention:
People in Europe often eat their main cooked meal midday, so there is somewhat less deamand for lunchtime sarnies compared to the UK.

Hey, Ezied,
it´s time to just face up to the fact that you are NOT going to find your beloved Boots Meal Deal here in Germany.
The best thing you can do is to try and adapt and make the most of what IS available.
Then you can really look forward to a trip home and all of the wonderful things you have missed!

- the thing I miss most if a Burger King veggie burger - I tried to get one here once and got a roll with salad in it! - most disappointing, I can tell you!!!

Keep smiling, and look forward to the next trip home!
Small Town Boy
I'd thought I'd heard it all from homesick expats with their rose-tinted glasses, but this is the first time I've ever heard of anyone missing the Boots meal deal. I still find the idea of buying lunch from a chemist's shop a little strange.

Yes, much better to spend an hour wandering around town, going to 14 different shops for ingredients, and making a sandwich yourself.
Gorgo
or you could simply spend half a minute to walk to your next butcher/bakery and buy a fresh sandwich for about 1 eur. Almost all I've been to at least prepare some sort of basic wurstsemmel/käsesemmel if you ask.
Wizadora
You can't have anywhere near the range of sarnie options in germany as you can in the UK, even the chemists have a good selection for god's sakes!

I agree it ain't the end of the world but I miss proper sarnies too...Käse, wurst or lachs is about you're lot here.
Cartooncat
Just get used to Currywurst! biggrin.gif
morsieee
What's wrong with a Döner/Turkish pizza, Fries and a Coke for around 4,50 euro?
And the cool thing is that these Döner guys are everywhere!

As was already mentioned in the original post. Ezied was asking where you can get something good.

Can't speak for ezied, but I personally find it revolting and it has nothing in common with a regular sandwich. And to top it off, with fries and coke? While I'm not entirely sure what exactly is a Boots Meal Deal (except that it consists of a sandwich and some kind of a snack) fries where never mentioned in any od ezied's posts.

Agreed. IMHO it's the worst of the worst in the world of junk food.

Döner? It's meat, lettuce, tomato and onion wedged inside bread. It's a slice of cheese away from being a "regular sandwich." If it's not exactly the kind of sandwich you want, well, too bad.

I googled. So you might get a different kind of fried potatoes.

i love the fact all these north americans are debating about what exactly a boots meal deal is.
to sum up its a choice of a wide range of award winning sandwiches, wraps, salads, suisi, or pasta salad.
with a 100ml bottle of drink
and then either a packet of chrips, chcolate bar, them weird nuts and rasins or some of the boots cake which includes the world famous boots chcolate brownies.

and donor meat is not meat, evenyone knows its make out of street children that have had a stick stuck thro them and been rotated at a heat.
Small Town Boy
If the brownies were world-famous then presumably the "north americans" wouldn't be debating what it is.

I have never known anyone to have any opinion – positive or neutral – whatsoever on Boots' sandwich selection, so I'm finding this thread fascinating. "Award-winning"!! Never have I come so close to using a smilie.

Can you get different kinds of meat then? Didn't think so. If you don't want beef (or roasted street children, see below) but rather have chicken? Besides, all doners that I've ever seen came with some dressing, if you wanted it or not. Quite messy to eat.

I think I get it now, not much different from what you'd get at Subway.

While were at it: is Subway in Germany any good, i.e. is it the same as in Canada and the US?
Mariposa
I am not sure if I ever went to Subway in the US but the one in Germany and Spain seem pretty much the same so I don't think the differences will be all that big between US and Europe either. Maybe some of the toppings are (esp.the main toppings, like roasted chicken), because in the US they might offer a new one that we don't have in Europe yet.
ezied
boots meal deal sandwiches are award winning. it says so on the box.
its compleatly different from subway cause there is a lot more choice.
i refuse to go to subway because off all that extra packaging they give you. plus i get stressed when they are asking all those questions about jalopenos and olives
Mariposa
My subway sandwich just gets wrapped in paper, when I order one. And well, if that already stresses you out, then I hope you have a very laid back job. wink.gif
I just say lettuce, tomatoes, some bell pepper, some onions, that's it. Not very complicated or stressful at all. Ordering at Subway is really not that complicated.
ezied
i always get it wrapped in a tonne of paper and then stuck in a bag with a load of paper towels.
Tiggi
In some ways, discovering this thread was covert market research by a Boots employee would actually be quite reassuring.
FuzzyTony
I love Subway sandwiches! wub.gif

Yeah if you order them to go, but you could say that you don't want it in a bag.
Small Town Boy
In Boots, there is often a piece of cardboard involved in the packaging, then there's the plastic wrapping around the sandwich, then they put it into a carrier bag (plastic or paper) and give you a serviette. So just like... Subway!
georgiagirl
You can buy meals from a drugstore? What is a 'bottle of drink'? Isn't a 'drink' a noun that can stand on its own without the help of a bottle? What sort of awards do sandwiches win? How can ordering a Subway sandwich be 'stressful'? Who actually eats those disgusting prepackaged, overpriced sandwiches from Aldi / Rewe? How do brownies become world famous, and if they are world famous why have I not heard of them? Why not just prepare your own sandwich at home and bring it to work with you? What the hell is 'suisi'? Who invented liquid soap and why?

So many questions... blink.gif

Swiss sushi?
Punchbear
No, it's fish wot killed itself.
ezied
look. why im a being attacked for my love of the meal deal (proof that god must exsist in some form).
'bottle of drink' might be a yorkshire term.
yeah boots does have too much packaging as well, but i let to recycle and you can make the boxes into little tents for your kinder suprise toys.
i cant spell sushi.

im just a girl who loves meal deals sorry if you find that hard.
i have actually writtern to boots with a link to this thread asking them to fly me loads of meal deal over for free, im not sure they will
LittleSprite
You got my support.

A person who makes tents for kinder surprise toys can't be all bad. cool.gif
Mariposa
ezied, it might just be better (for you) if you get used to the idea that there are no meal deals exactly like the ones at Boots, and it is time to find (and get to like) alternatives, and not reply to every suggestion "but that's not the same as a Boots meal deal." You don't live in a country that has Boots, therefore there are no Boots meal deals. It'll be so much less frustrating to just accept the local options, and if you cannot live without your Boots meal deals get someone to fly them in for you or move back to the UK (I'm not saying you should, but if you must ave your Boots meal deals, that'll be your only option besides having someone fly them in for you). However, I find it a bit silly to make such a huge deal out of a freakin' sandwich and drink.
Crawlie
Poor ezied. It must be difficult for somebody to move to a completely different country with different tastes and suddenly find out that things are not as they are back home...

So, ezied, what brings you to Germany? English teacher? Taking a break from your studies of the English language? It MUST be something to with English.
