Hi,
I just moved from NYC 2 days ago. I am totally excited that I found this webpage. I am starting my new job on Monday and would like to bring some cupcakes to work. where can I find some? Also I love spraytan, instead of damaging my skin with UV rays and hope that it exists in FFM as well.
Thanks for your replies.

Welcome to Frankfurt! Hopefully you're enjoying yourself so far. I haven't seen cupcakes in stores here before, but most bakeries have donuts. As for the spray tan- Douglas at the Zeil offers spray tans. Just go to the very top floor and ask one of the employees.
Have a great first day tomorrow!

Welcome to FFM. Am a native NewYorker myself. Cupcakes are not easy to find - but if you live near a 'Real' food chain store, the store bakery sometimes offers them. Donuts are "in" at the moment so are easy to find in bakeries as indicated above.

Hope ure liking it here! The bakeries like Der Backer Eiffler n the likes have em, and in case u want some more reasonable options, u could go to the grocery stores like ALDI or Penny Markt, they have boxes of about 4 cupcakes or 4 donuts, come to the cost of about 1 euro a box..theyre pretty nice tasting too, ihavent tried donuts, but the cupcakes taste pretty good!

I have seen cupcakes everywhere in FF and German bakeries! They are either chocolate or I think fruitcake type ones. Somebody told me they are muffins but I can't see the difference to be honest.

hi, welcome to FFM! Nick in
Sachsenhausen is right! bring them Sekt! To a German, "muffins" = cupcakes (as we know them), and they're over-processed, pale shadows of what you probably know and love, too. And the donuts even in the best German bakeries leave something to be desired, especially if compare with those you find in Manhattan! So, unless you want to be original and bake them yourself, buy a nice bottle--and, if you want to impress, don't buy it at Aldi. ;)

I think drinking alcohol in the middle of the working day makes people sleepy; why not simply buy a selection of German pastries? You must admit that they have some tasty things here!

... "muffins" = cupcakes...
muffins are not cupcakes! cupcakes have frosting on them, like little mini cakes. muffins do not. there is also something about the ingredients (ratio of eggs and sugar), etc. which makes them cakes not muffins.
i always brought in a store bought cake since i cannot be bothered to bake, ususally my favorite, a streussel or soemthing easy to disperse. or pretzels.
germans love those.

So, Manhattangirl, how was your first day? What did you end up bringing?

thanks so much for all your answers, in the end obviously I brought nothing. And you are all right. Muffins and Cupcakes are definitely not the same. I wanted real cupcakes with frosting. But guess what I found a bake mix by Dr. Oetker. I will try it out. I guess I ll bake for my birthday. haha
do you meet up some time or what is the point of this website. I think it would be cool to have a weekly meetup or something of that sort.
let me know

what is the point of this website.
Hi there, and welcome! Everyone takes what they want or need from this website. Some people use it to network and make new friends, business acquaintances or sell/buy things in the ads section. Others use it to get or give information about local happenings, ask questions about life in
Germany etc. Some like to just debate about political issues. Others like to just have 'normal' conversations in their mothertongue with other native speakers, or even rant and rave about the Germans with those who might understand what it's like. There is a Calendar if you want to check any events happening, and a Gallery if you want to see what some of the events were like. Have fun!
