So, my family are visiting and I´d like to take them out to see the Alps. It would seem a nice idea to take a cable car up some peak or other and have lunch up there, enjoying the berg blick. So far I have found Zugspitze, which is too expensive (€34.50 per adult, same as a ski day pass!) and Kampenwand, although this is much cheaper (€13.50 per adult) it doesn´t look too spectacular.
Anyone have any recommendations for such a cable car excursion, preferably not too far from Munich?

The Kampenwand is what I would suggest. From the top of the cable-car there's a walk along to the Steinlingalm which is pretty much all level and takes about 20 minutes. Good views of the Chiemsee and area.
Even better views are to be had from the peak - from the Steinlingalm there's a track up to the peak which is another 30 minutes of steep walking/clambering. From there you also get good views to the south - can't remember if you can see to the south from the Sonnenalm (top of the cable-car).

Wendelstein is nice (24 Euro per adult), you can go up with the cable car and down with the cogwheel train or vv, a short bus trip (+ 3.5 euro) connects them.

Try the
Wankbahn . Haven't been up there for years but there are great 360° panoramic views. Plenty of walks starting at the top and plenty of huts around for refreshments. Return cable car ride is EUR 16 according to the website.

One of my favorite destinations (although I always walked, never used the gondola).
Sensational view across Walchensee.
11.50 Euro round trip

Just drive up to the top of Timmelsjoch Paß. Awesome views and there is a cafe up there.
