My husband and I (US) middle age have an opportunity to work for one year in Frankfurt. We will be given a furnished apartment. With our line of business, we are usually paid living expenses. What would be a fair value? We would be paid in Euros. How are the fitness clubs, grocery stores, etc.? English speaking beauty salons? Thanks for your help.

I have used the Rosetta Stone software and thought it was quite good. Another thing I did was purchase a computer game in German (German version of Settlers of Catan) and I found that playing that has helped some. My German skills are still rudimentary but having a 'fun' German practice has been nice and I did pick up a few words.

Hello,
As you are coming from the US and considering the conversion between US and Euro at the time being. You will find life expensive her.
Luckily, Germany, and Frankfurt, are not very expensive compared to other countries and town in Europe.
Fitness club price range from 9 euro to 75 euro per month ( 15$ to 120$)
Going out for a drink a bier or a glass wine or soda from 3 euro to 10 euro (5$ to 15$)
Having dinner price start at 10 euro for a main course (15$)
Buying grocery depending on the place you shop - I'll say between a 100 euro and 200 euro. It also depends on what you bought!
What you have to ask depends also on what you are currently earning and you standart of life. So it is pretty hard to answer the question?
Good luck! I am sure, you'll like Frankfurt!

We are proposing in our contract to pay our hours in US dollars and living expenses in euros. We will most likely dine out most of the time. We use a fitness club, prefer fresh fruits and vegetables. we are an upper middle class us citizen if that helps you in giving us ideas for a perdiem proposal. Both my husband and I will be working. Should we ask for medical benefits? Thanks again for your imput.

I found these numbers for Frankfurt:
http://www.unicum.de/geld/lebenshaltungsko...;bundesland_2=8The rent is too cheap in my opinion. You should multiply the numbers by a factor of up to 2.
