Hi! I know there are a few posts already, but they didn't really seem to tell me what I needed.
I am a grad student here in Berlin and want to stay at least another year. I have pretty much decided to get a CELTA at the Berlin School of English in August-Sept. and was wondering
1) if anyone has heard of any other schools offering a CELTA in Berin, with which I could compare (the webstie for Akademie für Fremdsprachen seems to be out of date. Does anyone know if it is still open?)
2) if anyone has a some good reasons for or against getting a CELTA. English teaching will be my main income but I would also like some time to do other stuff. I also have a ton of school loans to eventually pay off. Is the pay/ are the job opportunities better than getting a plain old TOEFL?
3) I might want to do some teaching when/if I go back to the States. Would a CELTA help me there?
4) for BSE Grads: What is your opinion on the program and their help in finding you a job?
Thanks for any help!!!

hi, i did my celta at the berlin school of english.
all i can say is, it's a good school with very good tutors.
you definitely need a certificate to teach english, even if you're a native speaker. you will find there are millions of things you didn't know about before starting the course, that are necessary if you want to teach a language (e.g. grammar, which seemed to be the weakest point of natives on my course).
you may want to have a look on www.tefl.com/jobs and realise that most of the employers require celta (or equivalent) so whether you take this or another course isn't really relevant as long as you get certified.
we had an input session on "working in germany", we got told that they work in conjunction with a chain of schools that has branches across germany but that was it really..
i found an ad the other day on tefl.com from a school in prague (caledonian school/institute), saying that they are the only school that guarantees you a job on completion of the course, so if you feel like moving to the czech republic, go for it!

Thanks for the reply! After my previous research, I was under the impression that CELTA is the best out there. Are you saying that if I do, for example, a cheaper online tefl, I would get the same jobs and pay?
