Taking a dog with five people on the Bayern-Ticket - Munich

Free rail travel or must I buy a doggy ticket?
thetagirl05
I'm sure I can call DB and ask this question, but I hate talking in german on the phone, so...

tomorrow 5 of us would like to go to Nürnberg with the Bayern Ticket. Originally, my puppy Finn was going to stay with a dog sitter. However, I have officially lost the key to my apartment and have no spare key to give the dog sitter since my roommate will have the other key with her. Since Finn is actually a great traveler, I simply decided to bring Finn along on the trip.

What are the rules of travel with a dog on the train? Does he need a ticket, or can he simply fall under the Bayern Ticket, even though we already have 5 people?

Thanks for any info!

Kids under 6 don't count in the 5 person limit (max 2), So treat Finn as a kid and he's free.

Nope, there's five of them already, no chance of convincing the conductor that a) Finn is a child; b) any two given travelers are his parents.

But I didn't see anywhere where it says dogs cost extra either.

According to the bahn.de site...

not sure about dogs, but cats certainly don't cost extra and I would have thought it would be the same for dogs.

So get a white stick, and sunglasses, and say he's a guide dog.

Yep, cats and small dogs in carrier boxes are free. You need to pay for larger dogs.

Not much difference between Finn and this house cat (Maine Coon).

Ha, yeah, Finn's about the same size as that house cat! tongue.gif
