Studentenwerk München - Munich

Organisation helping students find accommodation
so wheat
Hi,I will move to Munich at the late June for a summer study at a state-owned research institute for about 3 months. The guest house seemed a bit expensive for me so i am looking for possible accommodation alternatives. i have seen the studentenwerk website and the prices seemed reasonable for me but i am not sure they will accept me although i have a international student card. Is there anybody who have an idea about that? Or can anybody give a link to an english website for the studentenwerk?

When are you coming exactly? If it is in between German semesters, you might be able to do a sublease.
The Studentenwerk München, like most, has a rooms shortage and a waiting list.

I'd also recommend checking out zwischenmiete.de and studenten-wg.de.
They're in German, but if you search TT for some threads on common apartment hunting vocab, you should be okay.

thanks for your replies. i will be in munich between 24 July and 6-10 September. i don't know whether it is in between the semesters in Germany.

Normally there would be no way, as they are for students studying specifically in Munich (as well as exchange students studying in Munich). But seen as it'll be in the summer you might have a better chance, although that's no way a guarantee.

You're in luck! Classes end July 20 and resume October 15. That being said, there will likely be a lot of folks with exams, etc. throughout the rest of July. Still, though, you have a good chance of finding someone willing to sublease for that time period (whether in a Studentenwerk place or somewhere else).

Just to clarify, studentenwerk is a national institution which supports students throughout Germany. It is not only limited to Munich. Studentenwerk-München is the Munich branch, but there are 58 studentenwerks.

If you happen to be somewhere else you can always find information about student services in your area by clicking on the studentenwerk map.

a good bet is probably to walk around outside the various bigger accommodations - olypark for example - or the mensa/canteen. billboards are usually rife with people trying to sublet their rooms for holiday time.
