Hi there,
I am applying for my visa, and need
health insurance. I am from NZ- would it be better to get it from back home under travel insurance, or just set it up here?
If you know any companies that are a reasonable monthly price, could you recommend them to me?
Thank you very much!
Sasha

Depends what you're after, how long you'll be staying etc etc. If it's just gonna be a short trip, like a couple of months or so, I would go for insurance from over the internet maybe, otherwise check out the search function at the top of the page, or click
this to find the info you need.

Try
http://www.hansemerkur.de/ The basic coverage starts at about 51 Eu/month. They specialize in insurance specifically to satisfy visa requirements.
Also, for helpful information on the visa process (especially if you are apply for self-employment) please look here:

Hi Sasha
I am now in the same position as you, I am a Kiwi girl who has been in Munich for 2 weeks applying for the working holiday visa. Did you have any luck getting health insurance? Did you get it from NZ or Germany?
Thanks

I'm looking into this one here: www.mawista.com
It's the cheapest one I can find, and I hope to use it when applying for my Working Holiday Visa soon..

HanseMerkur works well for insurance. I have used "travel insurance" for almost three years now.
Recently, I made an appointment to extend my residence and work permits in Berlin. The Auslanderbehörde has a new form for those with private insurance, that must be filled out by the insurer and validated to meet the following conditions:
1. coverage may be extended indefinitely
2. coverage is comparable to non travel insurance offered by the public system
When I spoke to HanseMerkur, the person in charge of filling out such forms explained that the Auslanderbehörden around Germany have simply become less friendly, and not necessarily more effective and that a stamp and signature from her would pass through without problems.
