I drive a lot in Italy and although the level of driving there is atrocious compared to here I never see any road accidents there.

There's a thousand threads dancing round this topic. IMHO Germans believe they're all Michael Schmacher, and many have no common sense, a raving inferiority complex answered by their 4.something litre engines, over caffeinated, over stressed and unable to see left or right or more than 20m ahead. They're often crap drivers, in short.

Do Germans have more accidents per capita than other nations?
I don't think so personally, i think it's just that when you have a crash on the autobahn that it's likely to be a bloody big one!
The other major thing is the req't to wait for the Police to arrive when you have a minor fender bender which draws attention to it.
In many other countries you stop, have a bit of a shouting match and then exchange details and bugger off.

re Italy. When I spent some time in Sicily, every car had several bumps on it...it's a bit like bumper cars there.
I don't think I've noticed there being more accidents here than elsewhere.
C'mon...someone pull up some statistics, you know you want to

I spent 10 days in Italy last year and witnessed 3 accidents, two involving cars and motor-scooters, one involving a car and a pedestrian. I haven't witnessed that many accidents here in 10 months.
Maybe you can't always go by your own personal impression?

Driving from Stanstead to Bristol on the motorway (courtesy Brit term) one Friday afternoon I saw more accidents (five plus three broken down cars) than I ever did in a month of driving the equal distance on the Autobahn.
