Looking for a new computer

*Don't* buy at CSL

If anyone is looking for a new computer, and has run into a site called www.csl-computer.com, DO NOT be tempted by their good prices for a new PC. I bought one about three months ago, and I've not experienced a major hard disk crash, but right now my sound card stopped working as well. Therefore I took it to the university where I know people who can give me good advice about things like this. After a checkup, I was told that the guy who checked it was really surprised that a system like this runs stable. And he wasn't surprised that a hard disk crash like last week's happened.

Although I'm tempted to throw the piece of sh*t out of the window, I can better send it back...

For all my PC bits I've found Litec to be really good. Not always the absolute cheapest but as you can walk into their shop you save the delivery and having them local helps when something goes wrong.

I've heard that the 'Rueckgaberecht' in Germany is really good - if the goods don't work as advertised you can send them back and you'll get your money back. I've never done this so can't speak from experience.

Yep, I also always use Litec, and actually have found them to be the cheapest in most cases. If not Litec, then usually I manage to get what I need from Conrad.

Problem is Litec do not usually sell complete systems, mainly just parts.

If you build you own PC, you will always get a great deal & exactly what
you want..

This is whay I have not bought a "Pre Built" PC since 1994...

The good thing about Litec are the prices (Most of the time)..
The Bad thing is them running out of stock of the item you need TODAY..

For this reason I always go around to all the other dealers in the area and get
price lists, compare prices, then go for the 1 who has the best price, if they don't
have it anymore I goto the next one...

@Darkknight -- Agree with you completly.

I built mine from scratch and used Litec for all the parts. For desktops, I would never go back to buying a pre-built system. It's a lot easier than many people think... Hardest part is deciding on the spec.. rest is plain sailing

I ALSO use Litec.

but to go there you need to be computer savvy and have done your research on what you want before you go there. You need to go in with an agenda, the busy atmosphere in there is not suitable for getting into long discussions with the staff over what would suit you.

Also, I have returned stuff there a good few times now. They will not take something back and give your money back straight away, first you need to go upstairs to their returns department which always closes early and is not open on Saturdays. You invariably have to queue there for 30 mins or more.

Despite that, and being angry with them once for not taking something back (I got the box slightly wet in the rain) I still get all my stuff there as its usually by far the cheapst smile.gif

Yep, the stock at Litec can be a bit frustrating but you can now order on-line and they'll email you when all your stuff is in. You can then just go upstairs and collect it. It's always much more relaxed up there too.

They do have complete systems (and will assemble your PC for you if you pay a bit extra) although I've never done this.
