Weinwanderung on May Day (and Walpurgis night) - Germany

Does anyone know about Weinwanderung in the Weinheim/Heidelberg region? Are there special routes, how is it organised?

Also are there any particular Walpurgis (30th April) traditions/events in the MA/HD region? In some countries this is a big thing.

Walpurgis nacht is suppose to celebrated in the ampetheatre in the woods above heidelberg. will ask the other half more as he's been to both before then post later.

ah right. this is that amphitheater up in the hills, which was an old nazi site or a place for druids, right? never been up there. has a bit of a mysterious flair.

Tomorrow is Mayday and a couple of us are planning to indulge in some Weinwanderung.

We meet in Heppenheim at 10am.

There is a train from Heidelberg (0928) via Weinheim (0948) to Heppenheim (0958).

The 0916 from Mannheim connects in MA-Fredrichsfeld with the same train.

Is there room for one more? Is this Heppenheim (Bergstrasse) ? I'm assuming the meeting location is the Bahnhof?

Though with the weather today, i doubt there'll be more than 10k ppl making it up there. Note: seriously, no one over 30 goes there.

That thing up there has nothing to do with Walpurgis though. It's just a convenient date for the kids to get drunk to the point that they usually have to keep several dozen ambulances ready.

How soon should we (mainly me) contact you if the weather isn't great? I gotta be on the 7:30 train if I'm to make it to Heppenheim at 10; it'd be a little unfortunate if the wanderung is called off while I'm on the train
