Sunday Brunch -- 14.Nov.2004

Details TBD but want to gauge interest

Toytown Germany > Discussion forum > South Germany > Munich > Meetups in Munich
jml
Apparently the weather this Sunday will be rotten, the stores aren't open, and there's nothing gonna be good on TV; aint nothing to do but eat.

Soo...anyone up for brunch this Sunday?

Now, I am shit at organizing and I hate to do shit which I am shit at, frankly it makes me feel shitty. However, my half-assed attempts to get others to organize a Sunday Brunch haven't come together as of yet. So here's the plan:

Time: 11ish - 12ish. Last time we said 10:30-11ish lots of peeps showed up hungover and closer to 12ish.

Location: will be confirmed on Friday but will definitely be centralish and involving bacon, coffee, and other necessary eats.

Post up if this sounds good to you, location unknown. Otherwise post up after the place is settled.

PS: Newbies, this is a good easy way to meetup.

sounds good. haven't done brunch for a long time, so I'd be interested. I like Cafe Wienerplatz, Ritzy or Cafe Reitschule for sunday brunch. Any other suggestions?
Showem
Afraid I won't be able to make this. Will be off blowing my horn for Volkstrauertag, the German equivalent of Remembrance Day.
bubblylady
I'd be for it!
but I'm pretty broke so depends on how much it costs! brunch buffett would be cool.
JML your organisation last time was great!
jml
@BL only cause you did the rsvp'ing wink.gif
oli2000
I'd be interested, and would also prefer a place that does buffet.
Gen
there's the bookswap later Sunday at 16:00 -- not that you can't do both of course...
petal
Sounds perfect to blow away the cobwebs from the Saturday night! I know that CAST used to do an American brunch, but when I enquired in the summer they said that they had finished for 'the season'. Mmmmm, wonder if they have started up again!
butterbean
sounds good to me too. not sure about a buffet though, as they frequently have stuff on it that I really don't want to see or smell in the morning (i.e., herring and the like. shudder).

Despite the overthickness in pancakes, I think Bobolovsky's is good. Or what about Big Easy, Altschwabing, Wasserman's?
pepper
I would be interested, but must get my new apartment in order, so depends how I go up until Sunday. So a def maybe !!

there might be a practice brunch on Sunday. good old fashioned southern breakfast. we'll have a short card ranging from 2,80 - 7,50 with an adult beverage incentive plan. i'm thinkin' screwdriver's shaken over crushed ice served in phat ass wine glasses? you get the first one free!

So if you've been following the thread...The first brunch choice will be Twisted Bavarian. Confirmation will be posted latish Friday afternoonish. If not a centralish, cheapish alternatish place will be suggested. smile.gif

triple choc
@all

why don't you brunching lot slouch over to our 30-kinds-of-hot-choc cum book-swap thing afterwards, as Gen suggested? Bring some books too, if you remember. tongue.gif
morphine
Would love to join but may be i'll have to leave for Bonn or Paris, which as usual i will decide at the late hours of Friday:) lol. In all cases will let know till friday evening. To me twisted B. sounds interesting.
Katrina
I may well bless you with my presence wink.gif Would Huevos Rancheros be on the menu? *hint hint*
petal
Twwisted Bavaria is a great choice. I STILL haven't been there.
butterbean
well, I think it's only been open once, so you're not too far behind. smile.gif

and I do believe it's Twisted Bavarian... huh.gif
Kat
I'll see if I can make this before the Bookswap as well. What are the relative locations of Twisted Bavarian and Trachetenvögel? And are we sure the TB will be doing this? What time?
jml
@Kat: Location to be confirmed later this afternoon, TB is the first choice but not definite yet.

Twisted Bavarian Toytown Brunch - Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!

Biscuits & Sausage Gravy
Huevos Rancheros
Huevos & papas burittos with beans & cheese
Texas Toast - white bread filled with orange marmalade & Philadelphia Cream Cheese, dipped in egg batter & lightly fried
Roasted Habanero Obatzda & pretzels
All American Pig Out Session - 2 eggs, steak, bacon, refried beans, buscuits & gravy

Juergen has to price out the menu, Geno and I just wrote it (yes, as in Toytown's Papa Geno)
I promise we will stick with our usual theme, a lot of food for a reasonable price. and you get your first beverage on the house.

We would not have made it this far without the hard work of Papa_Geno. As a thank you, we ask you to join us on Saturday night at 20:00 to celebrate his birthday with 2,00 Augustiner, 3,30 long drinks.

The official open to the public day for the Twisted Bavarian is Tuesday, November 23rd.
Katrina
Darlin', I'm sold. See you Sunday!
butterbean
OMG - SAUSAGE GRAVY!!! we were just talking about that on Tues night. shit, I am so excited tears are welling up.

what hours are you open on Sunday? I may need to eat once, sit around, then order again!
TexasTornado
11:30 till you depart

This is not a public event, it's pretty much for our fans on Toytown. Our neighbors might wander down at some point, but for the most part this is a Toytown satisfy your "Southern Cookin' Jones" event.
TexasTornado
How about brunch with us and then head out to the bookswap and then you may come back for dinner? hum, would this be considered overkill?
Showem
Again, I'm going to miss out on another Twisted Bavarian exclusive party. mad.gif

Goes to stomp around the flat and act petulant.
Jeeves
Sounds like an excellent way to brunch on Sunday. Just reading the menu makes me feel hungry. I'll just have to make sure I recover from (watching) the rugby the day before first.
jml
Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah! I'll take on of each menu item and if Katrina's handing out blessings, I'll take one of each for me sins. oooh. if we eat really slowly and in smally micro-mini bites we might just through most of the sins and the meals at the same time. wink.gif
Kat
oh, man I want some Texas toast. Want it now. Will definitely drag myself out of bed for this one! tongue.gif drooling until lunchtime now.
Hazza
I reckon I'll be there too!!
Brummie
mana from heaven! I am there.
TexasTornado
Showem - You have a reservation for the Chef's Table in the kitchen. Simply pick the time and date.

Hazza - Yay! I feel as if we've all gone through this together (Harry, Jason, Dory & Juergen) opening pubs & restaurants. It's what we do.
Iceberg Slim
I can't believe I'm out of town for biscuits and gravy. I swear jml did this just to torture me.

would you plan to offer breakfast as a standing item? good-ass american breakfast is hard to find and worth it's weight in gold - especially after a night of heavy boozin.
pootle
*NOTE TO MYSELF* Schedule cholestorl test before going for brunch smile.gif

See you there biggrin.gif

are you kidding? no way! I've been here for almost 11 months and, with the exception of a week in Cali, sans Mexican during that time. Assuming I used to only eat Mexican once a month (yeah right): 11 months x 4 weeks per month =
very conservative estimate that Butterbean is at least 44 burritos behind!!!

Worse yet, I haven't had sausage gravy and biscuits since I lived in Virginia 9 years ago! Holy crap.
Kza
Whats an american biscuit? For me a cookie and a biscuit is the same thing. Is it like a dumpling or something?
butterbean
hmm. no, more like a scone in density, but not sweet. maybe a cross between a scone and a crumpet (?) and/or a bagel, though no hole.

setting aside the slang translation of course... ph34r.gif
Hazza
I think it's a bit like a squashed scone...

Actually, ignore this - read what Butterbean wrote above. I don't know - suffice to say, the first time I got an American biscuit, it was not what I imagined it would be
jml
Please RSVP via this poll: Brunch @ Twisted Bavarian

Thanks peeps. wink.gif
