Run4Africa
Hi all,

This year on Sunday 1st June, Commit will be holding its second ever "Run For Africa". Last year's race was a big success both as an awareness- and fundraiser for the charity's many projects throughout Africa and as a great day out for all involved, and we need your help again this year!

You can run either 5 or 10km through the English Gardens, starting and ending up by Studentenstadt. After the race, we'll be holding a summer festival with African food, music, drumming, dance and DJs continuing into the afternoon. Details are as follows:

When: Sunday 1st June 2008. Registration 9:30-10:45, race start 11am.
Where: Start and finish at Studentenstadt (U3/U6), Grasmeierstraße - entrance to Englischer Garten
How much: €25 or €18 concessions, includes starter pack, T-shirt and food & drink after the race. All proceeds go towards funding projects such as Commit's efforts with HIV/Aids education in Uganda and humanitarian work in Sierra Leone.

How to register: You can register online now at http://commit2partnership.ragecage.de/site/index.php?id=135 , the site is only in German but just click on "Zur Anmeldung" and the rest should be self-explanatory. Payment is via bank transfer to the account detailed after you sign up. Any problems or questions, please just send me a PM and I'll be happy to help you.

So sign up, get training, strap on your trainers and come join us for a day of fitness, food and philanthropic fun in the (hopefully) sun!

OK, so there's just over a week until this race, we've had a great response but the more the merrier so if you're thinking about signing up, now's the time to do it!! You have until Tuesday 25th May to register online here.

It's shaping up to be a great day and we'd love to see all you Toytowners taking part...

Many thanks!!

Your PM box is either full or not activated so I'll post publicly:

Hi guys -

Do you mean Tuesday 27th May? If so I will edit accordingly.
Sara (moderation team)

P.S. Can I walk the 5 km? My knees are shot but I want to do something.
SarahD
Can people register the day of the race at the race site or only online?
SarahD
@Sara - I think the deadline is today, so it should read "Sunday May 25". I just registered online, and the website said my payment had to be in by 25.5.08 without mentioning the day of the week...Also, the website doesn't say anything about a walk - only a 5k or 10k lauf but I'm sure you could walk as this seems to be one of those "the more the merrier" events!

Hi all,

Sorry for the confusion, the deadline should be Tuesday 27th May, this way it ensures that all transfers have cleared by the weekend and we can see who still needs to pay. Anyone who misses the bank transfer can pay cash at the race on Sunday, no problem. Also, you can turn up on the day to register and again, pay cash to join in. Registration is 9:30-10:45 so if you wish to sign up on the day, please come earlier rather than later to ensure that we can get everyone sorted.

And yes, walkers are more than welcome, as is anyone who'd just like to come along for a cheer!

Thanks again to all who have signed up so far and thank you Sara(h)s for your correction!

Anyone else interested? I have always envied my almost sister-in-law her Bay to Breakers t-shirt; taking part in this run/walk will give me a feel-good competition t-shirt along with the comforting thought that "I helped".

I'll probably show up on Sunday with my wife for the walk-in registration as I saw this thread too late.
I'm also doing the city run on the 29th of June, so this will be a good training run smile.gif

Urgh, I just realized that I am picking my mother up at 12.30 pm on Sunday from the airport. Maybe next run.

Some feedback on this run...

Very well organised, relaxed atmosphere, great route...well done to the organisers. I would recommend it to anyone for next year.
