I've lived in the USA all my life. I was born in Stadthaggen and have been thinking about what life would be like in Germany. My friends here in Wisconsin are all telling me to go "check it out" and see what happens. Well, Toytown seems like a great place to start. Moving out of my familiar comfort zone is a little unsettling for me and I'm interested to hear from anyone who speaks English and is actually living there!

Yes.
No, hang on, what was the question again?
Sure, move out of your "comfort zone". Come live in Germany.
Grand. Sorted.

So, your friends are saying you should move here and then report back to them on how it is?
Do you speak German? Some friends of mine were roughly your age when they moved here. They still only speak basic German, but they love it here. They're from CA.
I've been here 16 years now, and can't imagine moving back. I'd be giving up too much.

I see from your profile that you will soon be 58. Are you looking to retire here? If not, wait to move here until you are.

It's very nice here. Me and my husband moved here pretty much against will, he is in the army. We are stationed here in schweinfurt. I think my favorite part so far is how clean, and beautiful it is here. People are generally nice, and most of the german people I have come across speak good english. I really like the fact that we are so close to many places to visit. It's nice to have Italy, France, and all of Germany and much at your finger tips. I think you and your family would enjoy it, but if you are so unsure, maybe come for a mini vacation, take a few tours, see how it feels. Good Luck

I just moved here from Chicago a couple of months ago. I have zero complaints apart from the lousy exchange rate. It's really terrible right now. Definitely something to consider.
Just for info it looks as if OP has not been back here since the original posting...
