Sushi at Villa Flora

Is it any good?

I'm thinking about going for the sushi happy hour (6-7 pm) at Villa Flora tonight but I see that somebody got food poisoning there (was that from the sushi?) This restaurant is practically next door to Feierwerk, where the Legendary Pink Dots are playing tonight. Anyway, just wondering if the sushi is any good. I don't care if the service is bad if there is good, decently priced sushi to be had.

If I decide to go, I wouldn't mind some company. My husband has to work a bit late so he won't be able to make it early enough for the inexpensive sushi. Yeah, I don't know any of you yet but I thought it might be worth asking anyway. Sometimes eating alone is . . . lonely.

I've heard mixed things about VF and my own reviews are middling. There's an all-you-can-eat running sushi place on Heimeranplatz (just under the S-Bahn bridge) which costs €20/head. Certainly fresher and quite popular.

I live real close to Heimeranplatz.

No, it wasnt from the Sushi, it was from a plate of the most disgusting chicken wings I have ever been served. I only managed to finish about three of them before I gave up. Sadly it was enough to have me on the toilet for the next 3 days. I HATE VILLA FLORA. I wouldnt trust them to boil an egg.

Is the place near Heimeranplatz only all you can eat or do they also serve al la carte? My problem with all you can eat is that I don't usually eat very much. Though the idea of stuffing myself with sushi does have an appeal. smile.gif

If they can't handle making chicken wings I am afraid of what their sushi would be like.

No restaurant in the world gets it right 100% of the time. I bet if you went round munich you could find a bad story for every restaurant . I've been there a few times & I know other friends who have eaten there and never had a problem.

AS an aside, my favourite sushi place is Oni Sushi in Lehel. Mixed plate of Sushi (16) & Soup €15 and the Sapporo is only €2.10 a bottle.

Anyway, apparently Villa Flora used to be a Brothel ... Might be wise to stay away from the fish! ph34r.gif

yuck! laugh.gif

my colleagues went there a couple of years ago and said it was good for trying sushi if you weren't sure you'd like it. But if you know you fdo, head to the running sushi Laiten at Münchner Freiheit, only €12 and very good.

For the first time I'll agree with potbelly (and he is fat) , sushi is awesome in Oni Sushi, best in munich, by a long long way. Sapporo is a must at that price as are the digestives of Asbach and Remi Martin

Thanks for the sushi suggestions...I'd certainly welcome more suggestions in that vein, particularly places that have lunch specials or happy hours...I've been forming a serious sushi addiction and I can't seem to afford it as often as I'd like.

I'll definitely give Oni Sushi a try.

As far as tonight goes, I want to eat somewhere near Feierwerk (Hansastr 39-41) since I'm going to the concert afterwards...so any suggestions in that area would also be welcome. I'm considering the sushi place on Heimeranplatz that BadDoggie suggested but I don't know if my husband is up for sushi or not (the only reason I was considering eating alone was to take advantage of the happy hour...if I'm skipping on Villa Flora, and I'm pretty sure I am, he'll be able to join me).

Thanks again.

@Saan. I hope you enjoy Oni Sushi. It's small and fairly quiet most of the time, but don't be put off if it is... it's worth the trip.

@AlanBail... I'm amazed that you can remember what the food tastes like. Being a tight ***t, you were ordering the Sapporo by the crate because you thought it was a bargain and might run out... Pikey !

I was at Villa Flora a couple of days ago for a work event, food there is great, but not really a Sushi place. Would highly recommend Villa Flora for a middle sized group wanting to enjoy some good food, and lots of beer.

We ended up eating at the sushi place on Heimeranplatz. The sushi was good--not great--and they had a pretty good selection. My favorite turned out to be the salmon sashimi. The tuna nigiri was also yummy. And the octupus nigiri. biggrin.gif Service was very friendly. I'd go back for lunch (the lunch all you can eat is half the price of the dinner) since it's a pretty short s-bahn ride from my place (anybody know of a place to get sushi in Moosach?). I'm thinking of taking our friend who came to the concert with us there, as after we told her about how we'd stuffed ourselves full of sushi she said she'd never had it. Will be trying Oni Sushi soon as well, probably after I get back from Thanksgiving in Italy. smile.gif

Thanks again for the help. I had a great night last night and the sushi was certainly a part of that. smile.gif
