Moving to Degerloch and I'm clueless

Various advice for newcomers to the area
Higgins2001
Hi everyone! I am new to this chat forum, as I just found out yesterday that I may possibly be moving to Degerloch in August (to teach.) I am from California and my husband and I will be moving together. We have never been to Germany and haven’t the first clue what we are doing (although we are still VERY excited!!!)

We are looking for a nice place to live, somewhere quaint, possibly a one bedroom apartment, and definitely within the price range of 400-500 Euros. I have no idea if that is even realistic, but I just thought I’d give it a chance.

Also, does anyone have any tips for me as far a being a first time over-seas mover? Anything I should watch out for? Red tape? Etc? I’d greatly appreciate anyone’s time and help. You all seem to be so helpful to each other and I really look forward to your responses.

All the best,

Hi,

A wander through the wiki here - esp the how-to guides - might be a good place to start.

You can also pick up a few individual experiences by reading some of the blogs on the Germany sub-branch of the expat blog ring list. There are also links to expat resources on that site.

The Toytown search function sometimes comes up with hits. Give that a try as well for specific topics.

You should be able to find a place for that money however it will probably be smaller than you are used to. Quaint in Germany means small!! You might be better looking a few stops away on the train, out as far as Leinfelden will only mean a 10-15 minute train ride. Will you be working at the International school??

Hi,

welcome in Germany - You will find a nice place for 500 €uros...
The best way is to know people, who live in that area...
A real good forum worldwide is www.couchsurfing.com
Join the Baden-Württemberg-group and ask for people, who live there...

Have a good time
