Oh yes...
on Tuesday April 29, 2008, the newest game in the GTA series will be released, and it's looking to be a corker! Anyone here getting it?

I hate the krout language totally fucking up a game for me, but also have continual problems with getting anything delivered to my house, due to a new road having been built nearby, with a very slightly similar name. Seems to utterly baffle the krout delivery companies. Either the drivers are fuckwits, or their GPS devices are rubbish.
Going out and getting a copy from a shop would be perfect - subtitles I can either ignore, or put a load of black tape over the bottom of the screen, but I must know that the game is playable in proper lingo.

A lot of the design work for this game was done in Edinburgh at Rockstar North, One of my best mates fro Uni is one of the designers who has been working day and night on this thing,
One of the major points of discussion last time in the pub was that Germany is the only country in the world that required extra logic built into the code to stop blood being shown when someone is being whacked/shot/kicked etc. So, in a way, apparently it is being censored.

So it's pretty much like all Rockstar games then, being in English with German subtitles. I'm not 100% sure if you can turn them off, or whether they will even appear if you have your console set to English.
I really researched this as I had an order from the UK, but when I realised I wouldn't get it on release day (us gamers are an impatient bunch), I decided to look into the German version, and when I found out it was both uncut and in English, I decided to cancel the pre-order and just pick it up here in the shops.

This isn't for every game though. Its on a case by case basis. The German version of Assassin's Creed was also uncut and it had quite a bit of blood in it. It depends on how much blood there is to begin with and how it looks etc. But from what I read, GTA IV will be the same everywhere (apart from Australia, where one scene is censored).

I have the blood part straight from the horse's mouth. But I am not sure if you care about blood been shown or not. My information is that the German version of GTA IV DOES have the blood removed. I will confirm
Even so the game is supposed to be an absolute cracker.

Whoa, please confirm this! Its not the fact that I need to see blood, but I hate playing a game that is in anyway different than how it was intended! To my knowledge there is no special version for Germany, just a European version, so the blood wouldn't be cut there too. It wasn't mentioned anywhere though that whilst it was "uncut" that it would still have the blood removed, so if you could find out that'd be great!
I'll still get it here anyway though, too late now!

Problem is they could still claim it is "uncut" i.e. no scene or part of a scene has been removed, but still not show blood. This is something that is easy to do in games but difficult to do in film.
I remember playing one game demo where they just changed the colour from blood red to grey, when you shot an opponent it looked like a small cloud of dust came out of them.

The term "uncut" in games, usually refers to blood and gore, more than scenes being cut. Games that have had blood removed here but nothing else, were always said to be "cut".
Also, if there was no blood, someone would have picked it up in the games magazines. I read that there is less blood in GTA IV than any of the others in the series, no exploding heads or fountains of blood etc, so this is why the USK gave it 18+ and allowed it to pass without being cut or edited (the others were cut with blood removed and were for ages 16+). Every German preview I've read said that it had blood.

German version is completely in English if you have your console set to English (on Xbox 360 anyway, but I've read PS3 version is the same), and there is blood in it (quite a lot actually) and it is completely uncut. I know this because I have it
Müller am Tal in Munich currently have it on the shelves.

I'm sure some places will start selling it today! Your best bet is to look for independent retailers, those little shops, as they are always selling games early. Or go to other places where games are not their speciality as they might not know (or chose to ignore) the correct release date! I did also hear that Gamestop might sell the games today too.

I've been chomping at the bit for this game for ages, my copy is currently winging its way across Europe to inevitably end up arriving a week late when the
Deutsche Post get lost. All that aside, and we're looking at potentially one of the best games of all time should the current standings on Metacritic and Gamerankings.com be any indication of its overall quality - 100/100 at Metacritic and 99.7% or 99.2% for the PS3 or Xbox 360 respectively on Gamerankings.
In the meantime, I'm playing the Metal Gear Online open beta until it arrives.

That's not saying a lot though, the game's still great to play but not as deep as previous iterations. Plus the Wiimote detracts from the gameplay a tad.

Yea, its a disgrace that they don't map all controls from the Wiimote to the Gamecube controller. They could assigned made one button for the stunt feature, but then I suppose people wouldn't buy as many Wiimotes and plastic wheels. Same old Nintendo.

Everything on the disc is available in English, even the subtitles. If your console is set to English then this will be automatic. There is the option of selecting a number of languages, French and German are 2 of them. Only the contents of the box are in German, ie manual and map. But if you have some basic German it's easy enough to understand and you don't even need them anyway.
MediaMarkt and Müller and any other Game store will be selling it. There was a large stack of them in MediaMarkt in Hamburg yesterday!
Have to say, I'm impressed with the little bit I've played so far. I managed to take a date to the pub, fell out drunk, she tells me I should take a taxi so I rob a taxi and drive her home and I even got to score at the end of it

And GTA San Andreas wasn't either. I have it. Blood, beating women, run over pedestrians, curse, having sex with prostitutes. It's all there. The trick is, it is rated 18+.
