German artist Gregor Schneider wants you to die. But not just anywhere -- he wants you to draw your last breath in an art gallery to make us less scared of the moment that awaits us all.
"Unfortunately today, death and the road to death are about suffering. Coming to terms with death as I plan it can take away the pain of dying for us," the 39-year-old artist told the online edition of daily Die Welt.

Story here.

Article from Die Welt (in German)

Can that be classed as art? And what is Gregor Schneider actually doing? Its not like he is killing himself for the public. He is just trying to find someone willing to die with people watching.

It reminds me of the Costa Rican artist who tied up and starved a dog to death in the name of art, except that that was his doing, and it wasn't a natural death, but murder and torture.

Warning: disturbing pictures by following the link.

This has already been done.
The Guardian has a gallery of the work of German artist Walter Shels who took photographs of cancer patients while alive and after death. Very innovative and a wonderful work.
It makes me wonder what this guy is trying to do. Is he just imitating the idea or implementing a new intrepretation?
SleeplessInMunich
Well it is different in so far as he wouldn't be taking photos but actually putting the person on display as they die.

It makes me wonder what this guy is trying to do.

Wait, what's his name again?
luvlein
You mean, he wants to cut off your head?
marie-claire
I don't know if that would help us with coming to terms with death and dying.
The artist's intentions may be good, but a public space, like an art gallery is not a place where anyone should die.
Moonboot
am thinking the artist's intention is to make lots of money.
marie-claire
Moonboot you are right and it shows that some people loose their respect for anything when money is on their minds.

Zierzt I just opened your link. These pictures are unbelievably beautiful and peaceful.

Sounds like another rip-off merchant, like Gunther von Hagens.
