Adventures in Eating Out (Nuremberg)

Polidori sounds good. I had seen them online before and was interested so might as well make it this week. I will post tomorrow with google map extra unless Garrett feels so inclined. For now I must go off to bed...soo sleepy. (stupid bar across the street plays the football (Soccer) matches and people get pretty crazy and loud and it sounds like they are inside my room almost.)

It looked great, but I had no way of finding you guys. I arrived a bit past 8PM so it's my deal.

I asked the maitre 'd for an English speaking group from "Toytown" to no avail.

The KFC that I had was an adventure for all the wrong reasons!

We waited around at Sushi Glas for a while, but realized that it would be mobbed with Euro 2008 fans, so Ex-Seattleite made an executive decision to relocate to Bento Box. I was running late, and we left right around 8pm, so we probably just barely missed you.

This upcoming week is a multiple choice vote.

a. actually eat at Sushi Glas (provided there aren't hordes of fußball fans again)
b. Vietnamese (SAPA)
c. something MEXICAN in flavor... I'd like to try El Coyote (Äussere Bucher Strasse 5), but it's a little far away... so is there some place closer (hopefully something other than Enchilada's)?

I'll respond to myself and cast the first vote: C) MEXICAN

It Mexican is what we're going for, we have a few choices:
* Sausalitos
* Enchilada's
* El Coyote

I would opt for El Coyote (view on map). Sausalitos (view on map) has the advantage of being in the heart of the city, of course! (...And we already visited Enchilada's.)

To get to El Coyote, it looks like you can take Tram 9, Tram 4, Bus 35, or Bus 45 to the stop "Bucher Str./Nordring", then walk a very short distance. (I will be taking Tram 9 toward Thon, if this is where we'll be going on Wednesday.)

As always, you can figure out the public transit around town at the VGN website.

Mexican is good with me. el coyote might not be bad for me either as it's only a couple tram stops from where I work. But I can get to Sausalitos as well.

Sorry I missed last week. The mom took an impromptu trip to Berlin with the baby and I but I must say I did have an adventure eating out in an amazing restaurant in Berlin with the mom. Quite pricey but that's one of the nice things about being a nanny...not having to pay for meals.

Hey guys, my vote goes to El Coyote. Their outside seating looks really cozy and inviting. Plus, there supposedly is a semi final Euro soccer game that night. I would highly suggest to stay away from downtown that night, including Sausalitos. It might get a bit crazy around there.

I was just coming to say something about the soccer match and suggest to stay away...lol Germany against Turkey could get pretty ugly...

Well, Im not coming, but I can help you out with my opinion as Ive been to all of those three several times. Both Enchiladas and Sausolitos are party locations first and restaurants second, Nice enough food but nothing to write home about (although the Sausolitos Fajita is usually pretty good - Avoid the burgers like the plague).

Of the three, Id recommend El Coyote. They have a huge public viewing stage next door, so it might get loud during the game, but as its open-air and as I write its pissing down, perhaps that wont be a problem after all.

So it looks like we're going to the Abay Restaurant at Zirkelschmiedgasse 12. Tel 0911 2350999

The food is Ethiopian, which is a nice mixture of bland, and half spicy, meat or lentil/chickpea based stuff. It is really good for a vegetarian, but they don't do really spicy.

An unusual feature is that you eat with your hands. The food is served on a flat bread called injera, and you scoop up the stuff with your injera.

um, anyone have a time for when they are meeting for this etheopian meal? There's a new Toytowner that I would like to invite but it's hard with no time. Probably the earliest I could get there would be 7:30 or so just because of work, but I can always come late too.

Tyfani: Eating food with one's hands is fine. It's REALLY TASTY food... If this Ethiopian restaurant is ANYTHING like the others I used to frequent back in the 'States, you will love it... (right after you get over the eating with your hands thing, which is a little weird for the first few minutes).

Seriously, Ethiopian food rocks. I am so excited about it, especially since I was jonesin' for some and wasn't aware that Nuremberg had a place.

I will attend tonight, and I think I have convinced at least one coworker to also attend.

Tyfani don't worry about eating with your hands, its easier than a knife and fork, and way easier than chopsticks. Plus after 1 honey wine you'll lose all your inhibitions anyway.

Happily the Abay has tables outside so I'd suggest in this weather that's the place to be.

Don't know yet how many if any I'm bringing along. Will tell them we're coming later. Don't really need to reserve but its no harm to let them know.
