Maybe a stupid question but the last entry on
their blog is from Nov 1st and all I can find here is that the dry run was cancelled last week.
Are they open now ?

Hey Marka!
We found a Monster in our basement. A pump we named Seymour must be replaced, we found a leak in the back bar, ice machine is kaput AND a leaky dishwasher in the back kitchen must be reprimanded and repaired. It's best to get all this fixed now while it's covered by our contract. It is my hope, we can host a private breakfast for our neighbors to apologize for the loud music when staff party went on too long and too loud. We will launch our menu by ballot program on a Monday. 8 weeks after our opening we'll be hosting the a party to announce the winners of the election which made it on the menu. the general public will be selecting our core menu based upon popular votes. fun, never been done before, stressful, exciting.
Graham has not been on the blog as of late as he's been working closely with staff. We set up our service tray obstacle course on Friday. The cast and crew will be racing for prizes while cleaning the floors with their spills (we practice with water, drink beer afterwards).
We're still here, just not open for business yet.

@TTornado what happened in the end, and what licence do you have? Thinking christmas party, is there a problem with noise and times?
TexasTornado
Nov 9 2004, 3:55 pm
We do not have a live music license and have no intentions of obtaining one.
The Library (back room) would be nice to have acoustical guitar, but we are a restaurant not a live music venue so we'll never have jam sessions so to speak.

I didn't mean live... you had trouble because of the noise from the stereo, right? is it a problem for the xmas party?

@TexasTornado
THANK GOD! I cannot overstress how annoying it is that every bar has to have live music. It's bad enough having to put up with crappy canned music, but some local band caterwauling over amps turned to 11 in a closet-sized bar is unbearable.
Please, good food and a place for relative grown-ups to talk at a reasonable volume while drinking themselves stupid is a blessing. If you promise never to have live music, I promise to eat a shitload of burritos there.
do NOT go to Crapolitos on Tal, or any of their other locations. There is no Tex Mex to be had there.
But if you are 20 and want to pick up, you might do okay.

JoolyBooly & IceBergSlim - Pao sent me a message yesterday with some great background sound ideas to fit the vibe of our place. I am open and receptive.
Tim - I can assure you the quality of food in flavor and freshness is what you would expect to find in Houston, Texas. Ask DrivinWest, 3 Lions, Pootle, JohnnyWho, Showem or Gen. The Tex Mex is sound. I promise.

Whatever pao recommends, I'll agree with music-wise. Good background is important to the mood, but shouldn't overpower the conversation aspect. And should build the mood over the night as one gets more innebriated. The perfection of the playlist, imho, is a deciding factor between a good place to go and a home away from home.
@ Bludger
Yeah, I know there's not much of a music scene here. But what there is tends to be crap. I have a general complaint about live-music for live-music's sake. If the venue isn't about live bands, then they should be doled out in measured portions with forewarning to regulars.
Overall point - A good eats and drinks place takes very seriously the vibe they are building and the clientele they are marketing to. I think that the TW seems to be taking careful steps to craft a particular sort of place and I am hopeful that it works out to be a winning idea - with no crap live rock acts.

Good luck on the concept, the food at Bondi's was really swell. By the way, what concept is "Twisted Bavarian"? Makes me think of shiny black lederhosen and whips...
If you're up for suggestions, find a good projectionist. Went to a theme bar/restaurant which had a guy who did silent "16mm film rarities: vintage propagandistic mind-control, stunt drivers, demented home movies, cute animals, some naughty stuff, etc". Was a nice touch.

Twisted Bavarian Concept
Objective
To create a warm, inviting atmosphere with unique menu items that cannot be found in Munich. To Build a strong clientele of repeat customer by providing great service and remembering the little things that make people feel welcomed and allowing them to be involved in the development of our concept. In doing so, we are achieving three things:
Finding out what they want
Honoring their request
Creating a sense of ownership amongst our clientele.
Function Room
(Library)
For private parties, networking events and office meetings for the small to mid size business without conference facilities.
Monthly cocktail parties
AGBC (American German Business Club) approximately 80 people
California Association ( approx 100)
Toytown Munich (50+)
Menu selection by ballot
a new menu each Monday for 6 weeks. you may go online to cast votes or submit a ballot to your server. We keep the menu for a full week allowing all customer’s the opportunity to vote on each item.
We announce the final menu in the 8th week of business.
there will be off menu weekly specials
Lunch Delivery Service
lunch menu printed for local business
fax orders in
we call to confirm order
richshaw driver delivery
Embracing our Neighbors:
by bringing them together to create a sense of community
Open one hour early the first Saturday of the month for a complimentary continental breakfast.
Allows them to meet their neighbors
creates a sense of community
Bridging the gaps between cultures through sharing
Food & beverage delivery to building residents.
By allowing our neighbors to participate in the development, we are creating a fiercely protective force. If there is a problem or complaint, they will most likely call us instead of the Police.
Press night:
approximately 8 - 10weeks after opening invite the press out for an evening on us. The kitchen and bar staff should be well synchronized by now. Invite food critiques and writers out. This is a win-win situation for the pub. We could get great reviews and the city finds us without the advertising expenditure. Even if we get bad reviews, remember, press is press and even bad press is good. If we get a horrible write up, people will come out to see if it’s as really as bad as the review to satisfy their curiosity.
Art openings starting in January 2005
featuring local artist
(Please note: this is for the unknown art talent pool. we want artist' who've never been shown in a gallery)
Art openings are listed in print media at no charge to the gallery. The first Thursdays of each month we host an opening featuring a different local artist. This benefits us 3 ways.
1. Free press.
2. A constantly changing interior.
3. We are supporting our local art community
The restaurant will provide a complimentary buffet and prosecco. We take 20% from the sale of art for the evening and through out the month. We create a site or link to each artist from our web page.
Service! Service! Service! We promise NEVER to allow a customer to sit unattended while we pretend to be too busy to even aknowledge them.

Hey!
we are still working on a plan for the neighbors. i would like to send a copy of the concept (we have an auf deutsch version) along with a bottle of prosecco announcing our being open for business as well as informing them of our beer delivery program.
there might be a practice brunch on Sunday. good old fashioned southern breakfast. we'll have a short card ranging from 2,80 - 7,50 with an adult beverage incentive plan. i'm thinkin' screwdriver's shaken over crushed ice served in phat ass wine glasses? you get the first one free!
once we obtain our venture capital loan (approx. 12 weeks) we'll launch a monthly billing plan. we can run house tabs on the employed with bank details or a credit card guarantee. we send you home with a receipt for your records. We will send out a detailed statement at the end of each month. this is inspired from my citibank days. i hated doing expense reports with such a passion that i would go months without turning them in.
hope to have the good fortune of hiring Robert soon. he is perfect for our concept and his enthusiasm makes him a valuable asset to any team.
so neighbor, i hope to serve you brunch this soon!
sorry, but felt if i corrected the previous post, baddoggies screaming rant would no longer make sense.

That wasn't a rant. I could show you a rant if you
really want to see what pedantic parents and years on-line have done.
I'd rather not rant; I prefer to drink. Failing that, I'd prefer to serve drinks. I'll let someone more artistic
do the ranting for me.
I'm not slamming you or the place. I think it's a novel idea, and while I wonder how well it will go over here, I'd like to see it succeed even despite your comment that seems to read that you'd prefer not to have my business. My only problem was with... achwas.
Here are two free tips for your breakfast:
1) Corned beef hash with eggs sunny-side up and an English muffin ("Toastie"). Germans have never seen this and they go nuts for it when they try it.
2) Bloody Marys instead of screwdrivers. Easy on the horseradish and if you premix, have a bland-as-easy-listening-radio bottle for the Germans whose idea of "really spicy" is "white rice".
woof.

IANAFCBMWI (I am not a food critic, but my wife is)
Just a few notes I thought you might find useful for your press plans, although I'm no real expert:
8-10 weeks before the press event: Most of the local press will have already sent a critic along incognito before that. The sooner the better if you want this event to be their first impressions of the place.
Win-win situation: You're (probably) right about the good and bad reviews, but you forgot about the bland reviews. If the event isn't excellent (see below), or you take a few weeks to get up to speed, expect some "average" reviews that don't separate you from 100s of other Munich places.
The press event: Not an unusual idea, but can be a risky one. The press here are well aware this kind of thing is just staged for free advertising and expect to be pampered in return for their favours, we're talking a requirement for a seriously Lavish do. At least consult (if not hire) a good PR firm to help arrange this.

Nov 11 2004, 4:09 pm
Astroboy - I am so underwhelmed by the four PR Agencies I've talked to so far. Out of the Four, not one of them gave me a clear description of what they could do for me. And for the one who quoted 1,400 a week can kiss my... After my mortgage banking days and pre-stand up comedy phase I worked for Stacey Pokluda of Hype! Entertainment. Her clients include Joe Rogan, Doug Stanhope, Margaret Cho, and many more. It's all about building relationships with journalist.
ahem, I don't have any relationships with any journalist. HELP!
A lot of this concept has been test marketed and it works. Even German's appreciate great service even though it's not the norm here, they do appreciate it.
