Just wanted to know if anyone had some advice or ideas for me. I'm a US citizen here with my husband who is working for NATO as a civilian. I'm a photographer and hope to keep working here in Germany. Most, if not all, of my clients are going to be military Americans from the local bases. Would I need to go through the Germans to get a business license or something for this? I want to have everything legit!

Hello Cat! My first post, just found this place.

I've been living and working here for around 20 years,
the last 2 1/2 as self employed Photographer and Designer.

I just registered at the Rathaus and set up business.
Of course I have to keep records for taxes and all
and have someone who takes care of that.

If you just did US citizens on post maybe you wouldn't
have to mess at all with the German gov? Hmmm...

Do you have access to a JAG officer? You might
want to consult one who knows the laws.

Good luck and Nice pix and website!
You can check mine out in my profile. smile.gif

I hate to say the five-letter word, but... AAFES? It seems like being an AAFES Concessionaire is a common way to sell products and services to American ID cardholders while being able to jump over the whole VAT thing.
