Some of my best friends are moderators.

Johnny, there's no way you have any friends and no way that any moderator could be anyone's friend, so I think your post should be removed as an impossible truth.

I wonder what the "S" and the "N" stand for on the helmets of the guys with the giant magnets wearing newly approved swimming pool wear.

I started this topic in "Life In Berlin" as this is where I encountered the problem with the moderators, and I am hoping that people who are interested in this thread will see the topic, and comment if interested.

I appreciate that this issue is relevant to lots of other members, but I think it is best to keep it in a highly visible thread, rather than bury it in a "geeky" place where most members don't visit.

(Note esp. for CM: the emphasis in that quote is mine. Oh, and I even modified it to correct a typo he made.)

What??? Metachat is supposed to be a geeky subforum? With topics like these:

Dreams about TT and its members
Happy daddyhood don_riina (Or maybe that is superawesomely geeky, I dunno)
And not forgetting: TT's Up-the-Arse corner, No chat, just arse

Now, "Life in Berlin", on the other hand ... well, let's face it, who in their right mind would want to check out a sub-subforum about a place that has been described as the arse of northern Europe? I know I never do.

I think we lost Colin, the OP --- he didn't get modded to oblivion, did he?

Not gone, just had to get on with a bit of real work today. Pretty entertaining stuff, and it's all my fault!!! Lets see how long the Gods tolerate it - they are clearly playing with the plebs.

Hey GreenTea, looks like I got it wrong, what with over 2500 views in less than 24 hours. Show how much I know. I'll put it down as a learning experience - so apologies to all the meta-chatters for calling you geeks (You must admit though that a thread called "Metachat" dows sound pretty geeky..

The whole business of editing peoples' posts in an undemocratic, biased and clandestine manner is what keeps Toytown where it is, viz. a lowest common denominator of spam on Viagra. If I were speaking in person with colin and the others about the history of Wedding and First citizen butted in only to tell me that the place where I live is the arsehole of europe and should be burned to the ground with me in it, I'd probably tell him to go fuck off, and take it from there. Unless he had something more to say, (which I doubt) I would simply tune him out from that point on and continue with the conversation at hand.

As it is, it is nearly impossible to conduct an interesting discussion on Toytown, because one is forced to weed through reams of garbage that are only a notch up from spam. Although I'm not losing any sleep over it, it is a shame, and a bigger, better-programmed community that is moderated in the open by the users rather than in secret by a handful of unknowns is in order. That a moderator removes my comments (REPEATEDLY) while softening up the naughty language of the one who is truly being offensive, but letting those posts remain, without ANY notice, is as good a reason as any to seek meaningful interaction elsewhere. The moderator(s) clearly take the side of the person who has derailed the conversation. At least now I know where the source of the 'spirit' of the community comes from. I thought it was the people themselves. Nope. dry.gif

Naw, trust me, I'm not taking it too seriously. I just think it's ultra lame to edit people's posts without being straight up about it. Read the thread yourself and see what other First Citizen gems have been collected there. (that is, if the modz haven't cleansed him again). It's a farce. I don't care, if some unseen moderator has something against me personally, whatever, it's not my community and I'm not the one stuck with the job of maintaining the face. But then I'm usually not butting into a conversation suggesting to burn down any city. Even though I wouldn't live in Munich, I'd never dis it like that. Aren't you glad?

I wouldn't take it too seriously either.
