There are indeed nails in the picture, they're hard to see as the rest of the photo is quite--distracting shall we say?

I don't think its risque, and actually find the whole question pretty sexist. A male prime minister could be photographed on the beach just wearing shorts and no top, but we carefully measure how much breast she's exposing in an evening gown.

On a personal level, I say good for you, wear whatever you like but we also have to take into consideration how what she wears and what image she portrays affect others.
Others who may be less capable of differentiating between what a person looks like and their ability to lead a country (a sad reality).

I think the fact that she is wearing this dress says that she can adapt to any situation. Would you prefer that she wears some frumpy old dress that your 90 year old grandmother would wear? Hell no. I say 'good for her! and to the rest of you 'stop being such prudes!'

I thought the outfit was ideal for a night at the opera, actually, and she looked great. The poor woman can't do anything right. For years, everyone complains about how you doesn't pay enough attention to her looks, and dresses badly. Nowadays, she is almost always immaculately dressed in a well cut suit for official appointments, and, on these phots is wearing an evening dress which is, again fitting for the occasion. She's never going to be a beautiful woman, but why on earth shouldn't she make the best of what she's got? It's not exactly risqué...

I agree with you but my opinion isn't what matters, what matters is the electorate in general and if they don't like it then it's a bad choice for her and could have consequences for her career. I'm not saying it's right but it is a reality.

I'm getting more conservative in my older age. For me, I think showing this much cleavage for a woman her age (regardless that she's a public figure) is a bit over the top and could be too big of a distraction at this event.

Last time I went to the opera women of a distinguished age did not dress like camp overwieght transvestite performers at a pantomime. But if you find that image good then fine. I think she did herself no favours, a little too much cleverage to be decent. But at least the guy siting next to her had a handy place to put the program. Opera glasses. Tissues. Mobile and wallet.

I love opera, would go more often if you could get day tickets here like I used to in London. Tis niether boring nore long winded. But considering the conservative market - not stuffy - her dress was a little to porno. What next pierced nipples? Let's not go there!

Last time I went to the opera (in Munich) women of a distinguished age, and younger, were dressed in similar fashion placing them far ahead of the sad cases who wore well tailored outfits hidden under kilos of glitter.

Without question it is too much cleavage for a politician. If even a minority of us feel that way, then it is a self-fulfilling statement. Unlike say being an actress - she does not need extra newspaper coverage or PR exposure of this type. But they do say that politics is hollywood for ugly people.
