Playing American football in Treptow park

Before I forget: any update / further info on the BBQ part? I guess in theory BYO would work best, but I am still a little hesitant to bring stuff only to find I don't need it. Will it happen (weather seems to be okay[-ish] around noon/afternoon, but it looks like there'll be rain showers and a thunderstorm towards the evening)?

Yes! That map is so great. But who is the guy on the field and why is he kicking the ball with his feet?? I don't understand!!!

Personally I'm hoping it's a bit cloudy with a little rain, because then we can play on the field of glory without being surrounding by a bunch of naked 60yo german men. As for BBQ-ing, I don't know. I guess I could just bring a bunch of food.

It would be even better if you could make some suggestions to us what to bring. So we could all pitch in.

Re: BBQ - I second the previous statement; would be good to know if there is a good way to chip in. Otherwise, I might just go for the BYO thing and bring some beer and sandwiches (of course, I'd be happy to "trade").

I'm just trying to get official word on the grill real quick. I could always just buy a ton of brats und brot on the way.

Ok we don't have a grill this week unless someone else has one to bring. So I guess just football and beer? Sounds good to me!

Normally we meet up at the Treptower Park S-Bahn station at 2 PM for those of you who are planning to play.

Looks like there's not too many "regulars" attending this Saturday - Dmitriy is not in Berlin, Nate (=Zink) and Amit have other plans. MarkL, did you leave Berlin for the weekend as well?

I'd like to play, but if there's just 4-5 people, I might join Nate for the ILA instead.

Re: time and place - yes, Treptower Park, meet-up at 2pm at S-Bahn Treptower Park (south-west entrance, big sign "Treptower Park" above the entrance). We played on the field on the other side of the street the last couple of times, but since it's going to be freakin' hot for Berlin standards tomorrow, the small field at the far end might have to suffice. Google Maps link "...you'll have the soccer player indicating the preferred place to play. The green arrow with the little star is the small field at the far end. The red marker should be around where you'll start after crossing the street."

Mark is out of town this weekend too.

i'm gonna be out of berlin for the next month-ish, seems like everyone is gone. hopefully we can pick it back up later.

yeah we played a few games, it was good crack. i played about 3 times and then after that they played a few more and then after that some people couldn't make it so now it is temporarily dead. MarkL is the man with the ball and the will to organise.. there's a couple of us irish who play football on wednesdays. that thread is in the sports section, if you're new in town, come along

Almost football season, time to get the game started back up. Who's interested in meeting up to play??

Some info about it:
We were playing every saturday in Treptow park for a couple months, usually had around 12 people playing. We'd start at 2pm and play for a couple hours. It's two hand touch so you shouldn't get hurt, and the average level of athleticism is quite low. (So don't worry about if you are old, out of shape, or can't catch for shit. You'd probably fit right in.)

Post in here if you're interested in playing. We could always change the time/location if it doesn't work well for people.
