I like American football, and football season 08/09 is far far away.
So, I decided to do something to ease waiting.
football - summer - idea: Find a group people to play "self-made" football in a park (maybe Treptower Park near Ostkreuz) The problem is, I have no idea how to organize this playing, I don't know how to play without protection, I don't know how many people are needed
and (how embarrassing) I have no "football-ball" at all!
But never the less,
I will try it! Who of you is willing to help, who will follow me?

i want to play football so bad. i don't understand what you mean about protection, we would just play 2 hand touch. i brought a brand new jr sized football from home that is perfect for this. i think all we need is about 10 people (guys or girls) and a nice open space and we are good to go. (and maybe some beer)

I am up for playing 2 hand touch as well. I live in P.Berg.

sorry for that question .. can you explain "playing 2 hand touch"?
mikehaef
Apr 14 2008, 10:35 pm
two hand touch is when you down a player by touching him/her with not one, but two, hands, instead of tackling
another favorite of mine, and I think more of a challenge for the defense, is flag football...tuck some long socks in the waistband, and in order to down a player, you have to pull one, not two, of the socks down...
i am in to play on saturdays...sundays I play softball, but saturdays would be cool and
treptow is perfect and i throw a pretty good spiral

"flag football"

.. so, now we are four players .. six more will be better.

So do we have enough people to get together for some football tomorrow?
winterfeld
Apr 18 2008, 8:42 am
I guess, we are still enough if each of you bring along some friend or some beer

But I think one day planing is maybe to short for some of you (or not ??)
.. if so, i suggest next saturday, 2 pm (14 Uhr) ?

i think this is only going to work if it's organized better. i have a football and two hands, so i'll do my best at organizing stuff.
please everyone who is at all interested send an email to markcleonard@gmail.com and include when would work best for you (ie sat morning). then i will send out emails to everyone with a time. it seems to me this will work much beetter than doing so on here. i think the weather is here to stay, so let's get rolling on this. i'd love to set up a bi-weekly thing maybe.

Hey everyone, I've gotten about 7 or 8 emails from people who all seem very interested so I don't think we'll have any problems getting some games going. However I myself am going to Poland for the weekend so won't be able to set anything up for Saturday. I can give all of the emails to someone else if they want to do it. There definitely seems to be a lot of interest for Sat.
And remember, everyone is welcome!

I must be missing something because to me
to me
the logistics of picking up a ball and going to mauer park don't sound that complicated
surely not enough to warrant 2 or 3 threads setting up games that never happen

Belloc I hate to burst your bubble but it IS happening this week.
Saturday at 2PM!! Right now it seems like
Treptow Park was the most favored, but if anyone has a better idea just say so.
Everyone please post if you are coming, etc.

better late than never

I would, however, suggest the sport complex at cantian strasse
1- It's free
2- It has a bunch of fields with good grass
3- if you go on a public park on saturday and the weather is nice chances are it will be crowded and you will be playing on top of people sunbathing
hope I'm making sense
here's a picture of the fields

Belloc is right. Playing in a public park on a sunny day will be impossible, especially in high traffic areas like Pberg, Mitte etc... The next problem is that the fields at the sport complexes will be booked (we should call ahead). We might need to look more on the edge of Berlin -
Spandau,
Zehlendorf, Reinikendorf,
Kopenick etc...
Would be nice if we had a few choices and then call ahead to see what would be best.
It would have to have easy transit access and be not too far out of the way.
It's not like there is a high school with a field just around the corner like we are used to.
winterfeld
Apr 28 2008, 4:10 pm
treptower park is very huge .. i guess, we will find a corner for us to play.
Belloc
Apr 28 2008, 6:39 pm
roman actually saturday at lunch time
12 - 3
most fields are vacant
I should know since I go there every saturday, there's this huge field with a running track around it and people run on the track but the field is always empty
as far treptower park count me out because it's just 2 crowded and I was there trying to play soccer and it was a pain the ball was always hitting sunbathers and the grass it's not in the best of shapes and it's just not that great to play sports

Treptower park also has no large unobstructed areas, too many trees and little gardens and stuff like that. If Cantianstrasse is indeed empty between 12 and 3 then we should play there. I, for one, have no desire to spend the afternoon arguing with Germans over the "proper use" of their parks every time we accidentally nail one.
Better safe than sorry.

the great thing about the sport complex is that the gate is open you just go in there and there's no security guy or guards checking
I mean people go there to run and play soccer so if you wanna lay on the grass and have a picnic I'm sure you will get looks
as for bringing stuff in nobody will check
I will try to go get the phone number if you people need more information

Apr 28 2008, 11:02 pm
ok went there the name of the place:
friedrich ludwig jahn sport park
there are a bunch of soccer fields and a running track with a field in the center
the guy said the soccer fields were open saturday and free to play
when asked about pre booking he said it wouldn't be a problem as it's not common to have all fields occupied
still if someone with decent german wants to call and book a field in advance
Tel.: (030) 44 30 37 30; 44 30 37 701
btw they are soccer fields with goals etc but b4 someone starts bitching it's much better than playing in a public park with bad grass and trees filled with people sunbathing
I hope it happens this saturday as I could use the break in monotony

Apr 29 2008, 12:13 am
what does it cost to book a field and which field is the best to play football?
MarkL
Apr 29 2008, 2:13 am
i think he said earlier that it was free, right?
so what do people prefer? i'm personally only worried about how i'm going to impress the cute german girls laying out in the sun if we choose to go to the sports complex. (no but really, i'm terrible)

Either place sounds good to me, what ever you guys decide.
I'm up for anything on Thursday, I got nothing to do.
Belloc
Apr 29 2008, 11:03 am
free on thursday as well
the fields on the sport complex are 100% free but yeah if you want or need an audience to see you play the public park would be better as the people on the sport complex are busy doing their thing
but unless you are playing in full gear with helmets etc I don't think people will be that interested
here's what I propose:
can we get a small number of people this thursday, may 1, in the friedrich ludwig sport park at one o'clock to play and if everything goes perfect we schedule another game there saturday
if for some reason people don't like the sport park we can always default to treptower park
how does it sound?
btw I don't have an official wilson football ball but I do have a rugby one.
