Want to install a Gas Cooker in my apartment but can't find a Gas Installer. Looked in the local phone book and asked everyone I know but no luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Any normal "Klempner" or "Elektroinstallateur" should be able to do that job.
Check
Gelbe Seiten for someone near your flat.

Yes, and both plumber and electrician can usually install a gas cooker

It's their daily business.
Heizungsinstallateur do also pretty much the same as a plumber...

Hi,
Looking for someone to install a Gas Cooker, there is a bit of work involved as currently there is just as Junkers Gas Water heater. Have the cooker just need a skilled person to finish the job. Did some pricing with companies but got exceedingly high quotes. IF anyone has the qualifications and/or skill then give me a shout.

Qualified work costs good money in Germany, but you can be pretty sure that if you go through a reputable firm it will be safely installed. What's your peace of mind worth? It's a gas cooker, not a TV or bookshelf after all.
I believe, as well, it a law here that a certified technician preform all gas related work.

You will probably be quoted around the same rate everywhere for work done by accredited tradespeople who give you a receipt with taxes charged, etc. You could go under-the-table, but like it's been pointed out, might not be a great idea given what the work involves.

Could anyone who has had this done give me a rough indication of price, please? Tens, hundreds, thousands? I don't know yet if the place I'll move in to would already have a connection for cooking with gas although I know the heating is gas. I love to cook and much prefer using gas so if there's a possibility to get it installed I might consider it. It's going to cost me a fortune to move anyway so might as well start my list off with everything I want (even if I end up not being able to afford most of it).
Thanks.

Hi Jeannie, actually having an installation done tomorrow by a local company in Hamburg. My installation requires some new gas pipes to connection to the current line that supplies the gas water heater. Price is going to be about 700euro including a brand new gas cooker at 400euro. If your place already has a gas cooker connection should be much less. Well worth shopping around as my first quotes were around 1200euro. Its all being done by qualified installers with full guarantee for two years etc.
If you need the contact name of the firm let me know

Thanks for the offer of contacts but I'm actually going to be living in Düsseldorf - just didn't want to start duplicating threads hence tagging my question on to this one in the Life in Hamburg section. In relation to the cost of a kitchen that sounds like a pretty reasonable price so it's definitely something for me to keep in mind.
Enjoy your new cooker!

just an additional bit of information, when the installer came he found that there was already a connection for hitching up a gas cooker so no need for additional pipes etc. The price is now about 500euro instead of the 700euro. Took less than an hour to setup. Had two other Gas installers around for quotes who failed to notice this handy pre installed cooker connection.
Enjoy Düsseldorf

I had a gas cooked installed as well as part of a kitchen install last month. New pipes and connections were required plus they had to come back after the kitchen was installed to connect it as I wouldn't be covered by insurance if something went wrong at a later date. Final cost was €580. There was also a small bit of plumbing work as well in that, new connections for washing machine/dishwasher. About 5 hours work in total.
