Howdy,
On the tram this morning I heard the ticket control people say that a guy could pay 20 euros now of 40 later if he wanted all the stuff sent to his house etc.
Is this true?
I thought it was 40 euros all the time?
Would be interesting to know in case I ever forget to stamp my ticket (which does happen now and again).

As long as they give you a receipt for the correct amount you paid, Then no probs.
If you didn't get a Receipt, then no.. You just got taken.
Did they show you a valid ticket checkers ID card?
Its currently a big prob. in Germany. Fake ticket checkers out conning people.
If/when controlled always ask to see ID before you show your ticket. They are required
by law to show you their ID when they are out controlling.
They also travel in pairs or more. If your stopped by a controller and theirs no others
then something is deff. wrong.

The person who checked me me and then the guy flashed an ID card when they asked but to be honest, I have no idea what a real ID card for these people looks like.
I guess thats whay its easy for the fake ones to con poeple.

ID's for the City inspectors (Trams/ubahns/bus) are issued by the local Transport Authority.
ID's used by the BSG (S-Bahns) are issued by Deutsche Bahn. Both usually have some kind of hologram on them.

I also thought it was €40 (and had to pay it myself once) unless you have a non-transferable ticket which you bring to the DVB office later and then pay a €5 fine...

Has anyone ever used the
Handy Ticket , where you can purchase you ticket with mobile phone in Dresden? Is it a good system?

I tried to look into the 'Handy Ticket' - to no avail. That said, I only checked their website and have since started buying monthly tickets...
Maybe go into one of their ServicePoints to get more information?

I once got on a jam packed tram at the last minute, sat down absent mindedly after the tram cleared up (forgetting about the ticket altogether) and got 'carded' a few stops down. They asked for the ticket, I told them I didn't have one. They asked for 40 euros, I told them I didn't have 40 euros. They asked for my passport. I didn't have it on me, so I gave them my US driving license, which they stared at confused. I told them I didn't understand what they wanted (in English), they joked upon themselves (there were 3 of them on the tram), "nicht understand"...I then offered them 2 euros and asked them to buy my ticket for me, which they did. They then gave me directions to my scheduled stop. end of story.

Good story, with a happy ending for you. But if you are suggesting this as a strategy, from what I've been told most of the time it won't work. Then again, maybe the controllers in Dresden are more lenient than those in Berlin.
