Average flatshare rental costs in Munich

What to expect in rent for a shared apartment

Hello

I´m hoping to move to Munich to work in a bar. How much should I be looking at to rent a cheap room in a house/flat share? I´ve looked at the rental section on this web site and average seemed to be €450. Is this what I should expect to pay? This seems far too much for a barman!

Thanks

Welcome to the realities of living in Munich!
You can get a roo in a flatsharefor cheaper than € 450 but probaly nothing under € 350

you *can* get places under €350, but you probably wouldn't want to live there.

you could try and get a better job... oder?

There are some for under 350 or 300 that are very nice... but there are literally 100 other people who will also come by. So you had better hope the people living there really like you. Also someone from work was looking at a flat share that wanted 600 euro a month... so yup. Willkommen!

i was insanely lucky and managed to get one for 200 a month in a WG with some really cool students. its in hasenbergl (the ghetto) but is actually really nice, and the ghetto in munich is like a middle class area of glasgow haha. anyway yeah i struggled to find anything decent for under 300 which was my limit as im an intern here who makes barely anything.

moral of the story is there are some cheap places out there but you have to be quick and as someone already said, hope you make a good impression.

Yeah, may be I set the minimum as too high, you can get down towards 300 I guess though I've nor heard of people paying less than that, even amongst students.
and the poster above mentioned that their flatshare is in BunnyMountain. Not my style at all to slag off the people who live out on the estates.
Most TTers though want to live roughly within the Mittlerer Ring. An increasing number of people though are being forced outwards.

ill have you know bunnymountain is quite delightful! 15 mins by u-bahn into the hauptbahnhof, 30 by bike. and the flat i stay in is modern and is really cool. anyway yeah its true most people want to be within the main area of the city but there are other options. luckily i work at the petuelring so its perfect for me.

I live in a WG 1 minute from Sendlinger Tor u-bahn for €270 per month. I found it by going to the university (on Leopoldstr.) and scouring their pin-boards for adverts. It's definitely possible to find a cheap place but you've gotta be willing to put in the hard graft.

If you need to find a place before you arrive in Munich then maybe find a not-so-cheap place with a short rental agreement and look for somewhere cheaper once you're here?

As mentioned before, there are lots of people in Munich looking for the same thing so much of the time it depends on luck smile.gif

In any case, good luck with the search and welcome to Munich!

yeah i think you definately have to be in the city to stand a good chance of securing something. i stayed in a youth hostel for the first week i was here and spent every day searching online and going for viewings. wg-gesucht.de is definately the best place to search for WG's. and you will get a good idea of prices from there aswell.
