So I come from this little town in Canada that is known as a "hockey town"...and I've been asking people at the rink about it but have yet to see a game. I checked at work and the next EHC Munchen game is on Sunday, November 7 at around 6:30pm (I think thats the right time) Anyway, anyone interested in going?

That's a new one...??

did they just steal that name from detroit? (not that i have any love for the redwings

I didn't say it was named "hockey town"...I mean, what else is there to do in Belle River! Skate, or play hockey...that's about it. Everyone I ever knew growing up was basically raised on skates. Good old BR is not quite the size of KW

Gotta love the Canadiens!!! The REAL Canadiens...not those losers from Mo-real.

Too bad they're tied for last place right now...but they're third in penalty minutes!! That's the importnat stat!!

Good 'ol Junior C hockey!!

I'll be there with a couple of friends.
We'll meet up at 6 in front of the entrance!

Good Pic! Although, I haven't followed the team since my brother stopped playing...But seriously, the rink was packed every Friday night and then everyone went back to our hometown bar "Mr. Bigg's"...nothing else to do. Hahaha! The funniest part is actually when my brother would come home all proud because some little kids were waiting outside the dressing rooms for autographs...for Local Hockey!!! Go figure.

sk8rgrl, I'm up for the EHC München game on Sunday. Been ages since I've seen a good game - considering I come from Oz, most of the hockey games I see don't tend to be particularly 'good' (unless you like watching hockey where the cops get called to the rink to break up the all-in brawl that's been going for 2 hours, and end up arresting half the crowd, both coaches and a linesman...)
So the game starts at 6:30 on Sun at Olympia Eissporthall (whatever it's called), right? Can we buy tix there or better to get them beforehand? Do u wanna meet up somewhere b4 the game?
By the way, my town has an average temp of 34° in summer and 14° in winter. It's not what u call a 'hockey town'

Tkachuk won't know what hit him...So I lose it...I snap... Left hook to the shoulder... and a flurry to the solarplexus...Ever since I was the Champ.

@ Caitlin
Yeah, it is at the Eissporthalle. I'll check the time at work today for sure. Where to meet up is the question...
@ canuck and toast
Domi wasn't all that good a hockey player...just good for fights. I believe his career on the Canadians was very short lived (although they retired his jersey...)

Nov 5 2004, 12:22 pm
I'll probably come along as well...might go for a skate before too...why not.
sk8rgrl
Nov 5 2004, 12:24 pm
Is there skating before??? I haven't checked though I'd be up for that too...
canuck
Nov 5 2004, 12:31 pm
The skating is from 1:30 to 4...last time I checked anyway. It's not right before the game...but close enough.

Nov 5 2004, 12:34 pm
I'd be interested in ice skating if you guys go beforehand...I know Canuck usually organizes this kind of thing...
Can't go to the hockey game as the comedy show is that night...drat :-(
Fellow Canadian and hockey fan here :-)

too funny- you were really stewing on that, weren't you?

@sk8rgrl
i forgot to ask how much tickets were and all that good stuff! not sure yet if i'll be able to go, but as for the skating, i'll remind you of your previous post:

If anyone wants to learn, I can help too.
i'm horrible on skates!

Nov 5 2004, 12:37 pm
@toast:
If Ume can skate, I'm sure you can too. Just grab onto Slim's 'thing' and he'll drag you around the rink.
sk8rgrl
Nov 5 2004, 12:43 pm
Yeah, I can help...no problem!
@ canuck
What time were you planning on? A three hour skate is a bit lengthy...
I'll be there anyway teaching until about 2:30pm or so...if you start later I can just walk over to the other rink and meet you guys there.
Tickets for the game are 13 or maybe 15 Euros...(for a seat) standing is 8 Euros I think.
canuck
Nov 5 2004, 12:46 pm
Usually we go from 1 till aboot 3. But if you want to meet at 2:30 and skate till 4 that just as good. I can help you a bit too Toast...although I can't do my triple-axel anymore. Sorry...too old for that.

@canuck & toast
Images of one twisted conga line playing in my mind :-)
Standing for a hockey game is just wrong...you need the flexibility to jump up and down in your seat when the ref does something stupid. It is not the same effect if you are already standing.

Nov 5 2004, 12:48 pm
thanks guys!

yeah, you're right. at least i have one up on ume in the winter sports department. i mean, can he make a snow angel?

Hmm...probably not...and I don't think clinging to the edge officially counts as skating either...do you suppose it is just as aerobically effective?!

Just be prepared for the little kiddies to zip by you and stare as you try to maintain balance...and composure. It happened to me while learning to rollerblade last weekend. Total humiliation

@canuck
I would pay money to see you do a triple-axel
sk8rgrl
Nov 5 2004, 12:59 pm
I would also pay money to see that! On hockey skates none the less...Please don't do it until I get there to watch Canuck!!

Are non-Canadian newbies allowed to join in the pre-game skating fun too? If we bring our own skates, how much does it cost to skate? (Don't worry, my skates aren't white and they don't have toe picks, Canuck...)
Um, and being a total newbie, I don't even KNOW how to get to the Olympia Eissporthalle. Peinlich. So can anyone help me out with directions? That is if u decide that an Aussie is allowed to join in all the Canadian fun.

Nov 5 2004, 1:34 pm

Not sure if I will make the game or not on sunday, depends on work.
No need to buy tickets before hand, they cost €10 and are easily available on the door.
According to the
EHC München website, game starts at 1830.

Thanx pootle, I just checked out the EHC München website, so not only do I now know my way to the rink etc, but I also got a 'personal travel plan' to the rink all worked out for me by the

Thanks for the ticket/time update pootle...Got caught up in work today and forgot to check that out...
Ok so the details are to meet at 2:30 at the Eissporthalle...I'm thinking by the lockers inside? The room isn't too big we could find each other I'm sure. (I'll be the one with the white skates, hockey skates are at home still)
Then to the game afterward...

Nov 5 2004, 10:32 pm

I wanna watch the Ice Hockey - I don't actually want to skate myself...where are you meeting before the game?

I guess before the game outside the Eissporthalle...6pm.

Nov 5 2004, 11:14 pm
I hope I can make the Game, so should I just look for the Crowd at 6? I can wear an old Winnipeg Jets Jersey, with Selanne on the back.
PS. My brother is such a Canadians fan, he named his son Dryden!

Being a newbie and all, I don't know how I'm going to 'recognise' any of the TTers outside the stadium before the game. Should I just listen out for a bunch of people with Canadian accents? (Thanx Carm for the tip off bout your Winnipeg jersey - I'll keep an eye open for that one). I can't make it for a skate at the rink beforehand either now, but am keen on seeing the game with some fellow TTers... So let me know who to look out for, OK!

Hey pootle. I will try and make it to next week's game if it is a Sunday. Other than that, let's get this Augsburg trip organised. Will be fun to watch the huge rivalry between those two teams, especially as Augsburg seem to be getting better now (i.e. they beat Ingolstadt on Friday night in Ingolstadt)

11-1 victory actually...real whitewash by Munich. Good fun though. Can't beat Ice Hockey and Glühwein!! Hope to go to a few more games this season.

Nov 8 2004, 11:18 am
Apparently, I jinxed the shutout. It was 11-0 with aboot 20secs left in the game and then Garmisch scored. Shite eh?? I echo Hazzas comment...can't beat Glühwein!! MMmm.
