Hello Everyone,

My name's Christopher, and I've been living in Germany for about 9 months now. I just got my VISA a couple of months ago and can now stay in Germany without problems. I live with my German girlfriend as she attends college in the area here and I'm needing to meet people, find jobs and stuff like that. So I'm hoping I get to talk to and meet alot of new people. Especially those in the Art, illustration fields as I am a freelance Media Artist and Animator. Hope to talk to some new people soon. biggrin.gif

Hey, I am currently aupairing in Düsseldorf, but i go to Essen a lot.
I am not to much into art, but I'm open to meeting new people. I am german myself, but grew up in England. I've been living in Germany since Sep, and so don't know that many people.
In what age range are you? I am 20 Myself, and I would prefer to meet with people in my age range.

Hey, I'd love to meet a new friend, I'm 23 myself so I think that would work out. Send me a pm sometime so we can exchange IM's or emails.

Hey Karina,

How'd you get a job teaching? Did you have teaching experience or something, cause last time I tried that I did really bad. Anyhoo, meeting up would be fun, especially to share art notes and stuff like that. Send a PM later. Thanks!

Hi! My name is Narelle, I'm a 26 year old aussie whose been living in Oberhausen for a couple of years now, but for some reason have only just stumbled upon this sight! I live here with my German husband after meeting him in London a couple of years ago.

I'd be more than happy to provide tips and advice for any newcomers to the country and I'm definitely keen to meet up with other native speakers in the area for a beer and a chat or whatever!

So do you just live here, or do you live, work and speak good German?

Hi All,

A newbie to the group as of today. I live in Herne and have been in Germany for 11 years. I work as Creative Director in an advertising agency in Gelsenkirchen, have a 5 year old son and am originally from Santa Monica, California. One of my new colleagues told me about Toytown and it sounded like just what I needed - a place to hook up with other English speaking folks. My interests are Nike+ challenges, reading, writing, visiting industrial culture, nature, swimming, exploring things with my son Nick, art, advertising and anti-advertising, gardening, dancing, fine wines, cooking, restaurants, travelling, offbeat movies...

What I am currently doing that might interest someone here:

I organise an English Breakfast meeting in Herne on the third Sunday of every month in the Treffpunkt Eickel from 09;30 onwards (Reichsstr. 66 44651 Herne). We are about 15 people, some with little kids and if anyone else would like to come they are welcome. It is a diverse group of older and mostly over 25s but I am interested in adding more folks to the group. If anyone is interested they just need to call me the week before so I can tell the cook (02325912970).

I have about 60 English paperbacks or more that are looking for a home. If anyone would like a box of books and lives nearby (so it don't have to go in the post which costs a fortune), I would be happy to give any number up! Any ideas about how to organise a book swap? Is anyone doing that? I gave bunches to the Bochum and Herne libraries but they are so snotty I am not giving them a single thing more. Rather give direct to the reader smile.gif

Cheers, mishe

Herne, where's that? What kind of projects do you do as creative director? Sounds like a fun job do you get to speak alot of english there or mostly german? What kind of books do you have? What genre? Enjoy your time here on TT!

Hi Mishe!

I'm in GE and would be interested in the books - or - even better (in terms of sharing) - why not talk to the Essen Book Club gals (and odd boy). They met up once a month as well and new things to read are always welcome!

Do you live in GE or Herne? We are in GE altstadt though my kids are a bit older than yours.

Always interesting to meet up with people doing the 'long haul' ...

regards

Hi,

I moved to Essen about a month ago from Cambridge, and I am just finding my feet. It would be great to meet up some time with some people who know the area. I'm in Borbeck, but would be happy to come into Essen if people fancy meeting up?
SKETCHfro
How old are you? What are you into? What do you do for a living?

Hi,

I'm 29, and I work as a project coordinator. I've been working in ecomm for a couple of years as a project manager, but struggled a bit to find work as I don't speak German.

I'm into art - I studied art history and architecture, but I like music, out door concerts and out door stuff in general. I enjoy scuba diving, but haven't done any here.

Hey all,

I arrived here in Germany a month ago and have just stumbled upon this sight. I'm 24, come from England and will be living in Gelsenkirchen for a while. Although I do speak some German, I would love to meet up with some English people for a few beers and be able to chat away in my own language!

Robert: funny enough, I have just moved here from Kentucky-lived in Louisville and loved it there. I am also working here as an engineer. If you fancy a beer and reminising about the Blue Grass State, let me know!

Hope to meet some of you soon...

Hi folks (in the Ruhr),

I've been running an international English-speaking Club in Muelheim an der Ruhr for the past 17 years. For further information please consult our website: "www.geocities.com/social_club_muelheim".
At our last meeting (last weekend) there were members and guests from Afghanistan, America, Germany, New Zealand and Russia. The Club language is English. Call us "The man in the street's United Nations" ...

Hi, I'm Polish. I'm also new to Essen. Moved here to be with my husband who is German. We've spent the last few years working in Washington DC. My German is quite bad, and although I'm working on it, would love to meet some English speaking folk to save myself from getting unused to interacting with people smile.gif We're 27 and 29. Anyone up for drinks?

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum, found it a couple of days ago through facebook! Moved from Amsterdam to Cologne 2 months ago for a new job (webeditor for online music service). I greatly enjoy my job, but I am really missing going for a spontaneous coffee or a drink with friends! So, if anybody is up for meeting up once in a while, let me know!
Next to English I also speak German and of course my native language Dutch :-)

If anybody needs tips on visiting Holland, jsut let me know as well, maybe I can help out with some tourist and less tourist tips ;-)
Looking forward to meet some more 'expats'!

Schöne Grüße,
Carolien
