Wok Man on Leopoldstraße, absolutely awful

The food sucks big time, don't eat here!

OK, last night I really did not want to cook, and did not want to eat out. As we all know, supermarkets here do not cater for those people that do not want to cook everything from scratch, so I thought I would go for a chinese takeaway. Was passing through Schwabing on the way home, and got some 'food' from Wok Man on Leopoldstrasse.

I do not know where to begin. No wait, yes I do. It was absolutely fucking shit. Excuse my French, but it was. NEVER in my life have I tasted such utter crap claiming to be fit for human consumption. I know that chinese restaurants tend to cater to the local taste buds, so I was not expecting much. I was not expecting anything better than average really. It was never going to be particularly authentic, but I at least assumed it would be edible.

I just got some simple noodles, a chicken dish, a beef dish, some vegetables and the obligatory bag of prawn crackers. Not one part of the meal was edible. Not even the bloody crackers!!! Everything tasted exactly the same - of shitty old overused cooking oil. I honestly could not even manage more that a mouthful of each dish. The meat used was appaling. Now, chinese takeaways back in England are not exactly famed for using prime cuts of meatz, but they at least disguise it well. How on earth somebody can make such a pigs ear of siumple stir fried vegetables is totally beyond me.

Avoid at all costs. Shittiest food in Munich (and I even eat Bifi snacks from the garage)

Oh, and if anyone knows a member of staff there, please pass on their address to me so I can go round and break their fucking teeth.

Noddy
I've been to Wok Man and I quite liked it. It might be luck (in either case) though, because don't you have to choose from that kind of buffet thing on the left as you go in? How good the food is will depend on how long it has been sitting there I guess.

By the way, if you did "take away" you missed part of the fun, which is some of the people who eat there (hey, I ate there after all!).

No Don, tell us how you really feel... tongue.gif

I cannot see how I could have had bad luck. I mean, I bought a range of dishes. If I had just grabbed a box of noodles, and found it to be shite, I would not be bothered, but spending a load of Euros on several dishes, and them ALL being crap just makes me think wok man is crap full stop.
If I was not such a lazy so and so, and could actually speak enuff krout, I would go down there with a wok and a charcoal brazier and show these idiots how its done. I just feel like I have been totally ripped off, and the fact that the staff are all Asian makes it 100 times worse. They MUST know that the food is awful, and must be thinking 'stupid european idiots' whenever someone is stupid enough to go in there.
Most chinese dishes are not exactly difficult to prepare: chop stuff, fry in copious amounts of artery furring fat, add stuff from jars and bottles, done. I am almost intrigued to find out exactly how they made it taste so utterly awful. I suppose that is a sort of admirable skill, being soooooooo shit at cooking that people cannot work out how something can taste so clearly wrong.

I am still seething. mad.gif

Perhaps you were just lucky Noddy.

I agree with Don - the food is shit. I went there about a year ago and ate from the buffet. Everything tasted bad. From memory, I also went pretty early, so the food can't have been sitting there for too long.

I usually get my Asian takeaway from a bloke who cooks in a caravan out the front of the Spar at Rotkreuzplatz. For around €5, you get plenty of food for one person. The ingredients are fresh (you can see them) and he cooks it all in front of you.

i agree. i went there the other day after the murphys. it was overpriced and tasted rank.
oh well!

Wok Man is not top fast food
But it isn't supposed to be. If you go there you can't expect the Ritz

But you can eat the stuff there, or go to Pizza Hut

You actually rant and rave about everything in Munich Don

From the Telekom to Chinese food

Isn't it time to go home, where everything is the way you want to have it rolleyes.gif

This is a discussion forum, not a "do-not-discuss" forum.

Rants are ok. Lots of truth in them.

Nighthawk,

Erm, where on earth have I said that everything is so much better in the UK? Just because I think something here is shit, does not for 1 second mean that I believe the UK to be better!
Yeah, I DO dislike this country. Never hid that fact. I COULD rant about anything and everything, but sorry sunshine, I know my food, and Wok Man is bullshit. I did not expect the Ritz, I expected, nay WANTED crap takeaway food, and still they could not perform. I do not walk into that sort of place and expect albalone or shark fin soup, just crappy fried noodles that a monkey can be trained to cook.

And yes, Telekom ARE shite, so are BT back in England for that matter.

I believe you have been here for 11 years? Any yet you are still organising expat get togethers. Whats up? If its all so fucking perfect in Germany, why do you feel the need to constantly reach out to other english speakers? If you like English speakers so much, why do YOU not "go home"?
mrbobke
Don, Dude, your eloquence is beyond reproach. Please continue with your rantings; they are not only useful, they are highly entertaining! laugh.gif

@Dom
Nothing is perfect in Germany. I don't fall over for enthusiasm about the country either. I just live here and have to get on with it

Just like you mate

if the food is shit, you complain. whether you are in munich, leeds or leftovershoe, iowa is irrelevant in that context

it does not mean you have to "go home". it means you have to eat elsewhere. and that it is good policy to advise people to not spend their hard-earned € there either

The true value of TT was brought home to me last evening when, without reverting to the site for a worthwhile search, I ordered a takeaway from these clowns. The most expensive phlegmosodiumspewtimate based gruel it has ever been my displeasure to taste.

Frankly I wasn't expecting much in terms of quality but these guys excelled themselves.

Lesson learned - consult the TT bible prior to executing whimsical journeys into the gastronomic unknown.
Kay
Thanks for the tip, I certainly won't go there, but why is this thread in "Events & nightlife"? blink.gif
Rizzo
Not my idea but I spent all my life last night experiencing an 'event' after tasting that shite.
Crawlie
Horrible place. Asia Wok on Schleissheimerstrasse is excellent in comparison. Tastes just like the Chinkie Takeaway place at Hazlemere crossroads where the owner used to do the Vulcan Death Grip thing on all unsuspecting customers.

Food was what I expect though. Asia Wok does the same quality (but leaves out the Death Grip)

Crawlie,

Do they deliver?

amateurs mistake Rizzo. smile.gif

next time go nearby to that German place Zur Brezn or Cafe Bachspeil or sumthin, or order take-away from right across the street the curry house Shere Punjab.

Lazy b@stardo that I am, I did it all on the internet - which makes even more of a dick for not doing a TT check. I don't 'do' rain plus I was still a tad fatigued from Friday night - total lightweight in need of intensive training regime.
