English translations of "Rache ist Blutwurst"

Here I am again with another translation query: I'm looking for the translation of 'Rache ist Blutwurst'. Every source I've checked thus far is contradictory. On Leo someone suggested it means 'Revenge is mine!' Is that true or is it revenge is sweet (Rache st Süß)? or something else? Thanks again!

"Revenge is mine" is wrong; the correct phrase is "Vengeance is mine", or "Die Rache ist mein" in German. I would therefore go with "Revenge is sweet". That said, this website suggests it means "I will exact revenge" (sich rächen). Not sure I agree though.

As someone on Leo suggested, you'd want to look at the original quote from All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Maria Remarque 1929. Seems to be more "revenge is sweet", as Haie has just exacted revenge upon Himmelstoß when he says this. I haven't read it in a while though so this quote might not be enough context.

If the Germans don't normally say "Rache ist Blutwurst", and the original author didn't choose the customary German expression, there would seem to be an argument for translating it literally. Otherwise, the original image (conjuring up images of blood and guts) would be lost.
