I am a graduate student here in Berlin doing my doctorate. At home, long hours of reading were made more bearable due to the presence of friends. Here I am finding it hard to motivate myself and frankly, reading alone for six hours is horribly boring.
I am wondering if there are any other graduate students (or even people who just do freelance work) who feel the same as I do and would like to meet up at a cafe sometime to do a few hours of work.

This being Toytown, I am sure you can find people here who feel the same as you do and would like to meet up at a café for a couple of hours of drunken debauchery.

Ive tended to be more of a work-alone person but im quite interested in giving this a try. I like the idea of a meetup to not talk but get on with stuff.

I'm interested. I'm also a doctoral candidate doing my dissertation writing in Berlin, and I definitely miss the camaraderie of the grad student group I left behind in my department at the U of Chicago. It'd be terrific to find a group to work alongside here.

I'm willing to try this. I am a PhD student at Duke visiting Berlin. I spend most of my days working alone at home or nearby cafes.

I'm game as well. If others are working around me, it might inspire me to write more quickly. Plus, it's good to share your research beyond the 5 people who will read your diss in your lifetime.

Hi, everyone.
I am a Political Science undergraduate, new to the city so I also end up alone at cafes or at home. I am really interested in the meetings, let me know!

Hi,
I work in a think tank here in Berlin, and am also studying German and will soon start taking French by correspondance (I apparently wish to have no social life while I'm here) and would be up for meeting in a cafe somewhere (provided it has wireless!!) to get some writing done for my research from work, or catch up on my language learning.
Cheers,
Kelly

Someone set a time and location already. I can recommend a cafe near Ostkruez. Can someone recommend something more central?

As F'hain seems to be the majority location, Ostkz is probably a good idea.
Im busy trying to sort out a new apartment right now so wouldnt be available for this at the moment, but definately in a week or two.

Hi,
So suggestions on how to actually do this?
I honestly was not expecting so many people to respond!!
I am not sure about the feasibliity of a ten person study group, both in terms of schedules and our capabilities to be quiet.
I think it might be best to all meetup some night (maybe monday?) where we can all meet, exchange numbers/ emails and then maybe in the future we could have an email group where you could just send out a message when and where you are studying so people can join. wow, my nerdiness is amazing me.
Conversely, if anyone wants to study with me next week
I try to study as much as possible whenever I am not teaching.
This means,
Monday 1-5
Tuesday 9-2
Weds 9-2
Thursday- all day
Friday 1-6
Sat/Sunday - all day
Although this weekend I have a guest so no studying is happening for me.
So whoever is free during any of those times, pick one and pick a cafe. I do not know of any cafes that can accomadate 10 or so people.

I like this place called Coffee Karma near Ostkruez. There's plenty of space there. They serve coffee, snacks, smoothies/shakes, and beer. I will be there tomorrow from 1-4 if anybody wants to join.
