The HMAS Sydney sank in 1941 in a battle with the German DKM Kormoran. Both ships sank but while there were German survivors, all of the 645 Aussie crew perished. However the absence of the lifeboats, among other things, in the newly taken images, raises new questions about the German version of the battle. The Germans have now initiated an enquiry into the fate of the ship.
