I'm looking for a place to live around Frankfurt and would like to know which areas are afflicted by air traffic noise? Any advice is much appreciated.

The below link will give you an idea. IMO Flörsheim gets off easy on this map as they get lots of overflights depending on the wind. Places like Kelsterbach, Raunheim, Rüsselsheim, Neu-Isenberg are definitely loud. In my experience the towns between the black and red lines are still quite loud, i.e. if you're in your backyard and a plane takes off you'd have problems carrying on a phone conversation for a minute. Between the red and green lines (where I live) the planes have usually reached a decent altitude and aren't so bothersome.

Of course you could avoid it entirely by living North of the Flughafen in the Taunus area. Also in Frankfurt proper there isn't much noise from aircraft.

Cool map. Keep in mind that it doesn't show the future est. noise from the new 4th runway.
If you going to move to that area take that into account. I've been to a lot of the place in the
red/green zones and have rarely heard a plane.

Most houses in the black/red areas have special noise dampening windows. There is/was
a project run by the airport that if the noise levels in your are were over a certain limit
all the homes in that area qualified for these special windows which were paid for by
the airport company.
