Indian Stammtisch for Indians and friends

Next meet: Saturday 10.May.2008 @ venue TBD

Toytown Germany > Discussion forum > South Germany > Munich > Meetups in Munich
bollywood
Meetup at an indian restaurant, date and location to be decided by discussion. This is intended as a revival of the Indian Stammtisch that was all the rage in Munich back in 2004-5. This Stammtisch promises to be even better with expected visitors like Amitabh Bachchan, Franka Potente, and even the reincarnated Deepika Padukone (all right, I'm just an Indian trying to sell you something wink.gif ).

So for all those who like to sing and dance around trees at least once a day, and for all those who have wondered how Indians manage all that singing and dancing, this is your chance to find out!

But first, we need to come up with a venue and date for our first meeting

I propose Sunday 13th of April at an Indian restaurant for either lunch or dinner. Please send in your suggestions

MysteriousM has suggested Safran, the Indian restaurant at Innere Wiener strasse, what do you all think?
madgibson
To be honest, from experience, you are better off just picking a restaurant of your choice and announcing it. Otherwise the discussion will go on vaguely without any decisive outcome!
bollywood
Thanks madgibson!

The venue is Safran
Steinstrasse 9, Munich Haidhausen
Tel. 089 6146 8781

let's have our first meeting on Sunday, 13th of April either at 12.00 noon or 18.00 evening for dinner.

Please start giving your preferences on time, and if any of you have any strong preferences otherwise

This meetup is not just for Indians so everyone who can put up with Indians is welcome!

This discussion is a continuation of the earlier thread on Indians in Munich
haidhausenguy
I be down.
itsbipul
For me, I am ok with either of lunch or dinner. Place is no issue. smile.gif. Count me in.
Rhapsody
Lunch would be much preferred!

Would prefer lunch. ph34r.gif
bollywood
There seems to be massive consensus on lunch, so let's consider that fixed

so we are meeting on Sunday, the 13th of April at 12.00 Noon

The venue is Safran, Steinstrasse 9, Munich Haidhausen

The place is 0.3 km or an 8 min. walk, away from Max-Weber-Platz U-bahn station.

To find out how to get there using public transportation you can use MVV in English

To see what the place looks like from a spy satellite, Google maps

So far we have confirmed attendance from:

Hi all, I wonder if it's time to start planning the next stammtisch.

I just had this brainwave, that maybe we could try having the next meetup outdoors. Specifically, a saturday afternoon barbecue on the banks of the Isar, maybe around the tiergarten. We could all get stuff to eat or grill. For the vegetarians, separate grills where they can grill aubergines for baigan bharta maybe? Or we could just have a normal picnic minus the grilling.

Please contribute your opinions, preferred time and venue, and interest in making it to the next stammtisch by posting here.
akishore
Picnic on Sat, May 10 would be great. My parents will be visiting Munich that day, and I could possibly talk my mom into cooking something nice. (We are Indian)
bollywood
@akishore: That sounds like a great idea

Lets plan for having the next meetup on Saturday May 10 then. I guess me and my wife could cook something and bring it too.
itsbipul
nice idea...will be good smile.gif
bollywood
I just got buried under work, don't think I 'll make it to this meet. good luck with the organising and everything
geminispark
If something def. is planned then I will show up as well - its strange how few Indians I know in Munich...

Grilling for vegetarians - how about some nice roasted corn, marshmallows, breadsticks with smoked cheese (yes I have done this before happy.gif)

Will keep checking the thread then and hopefully meet some of you then on Saturday! Looking forward to it.

What happened people???
der_dude
Do we have any plans to meet soon ...
I am new here and I really need some thing to kill my Sats and Suns ..would any thing like ,, going for trek in forest ,, walking in fields for 20 kms or even staying in a camp..
bollywood
Hey I would be up for a trek or walking 20 kms, though not for the camp. If you are interested you could try staying in Dachau for a bit, lose a bit of weight and so on.

But seriously, what's wrong with the Indians in Munich? Don't you all wanna meet some desis?

But seriously, what's wrong with the Indians in Munich? Don't you all wanna meet some desis?

Desis in Germany fall into several categories, none of them appealing.

1. The IT Consultant. Was probably the first person in their khandan/biradari/tehsil to go to college or brush their teeth. If female, has fascinating facial deformities. If male, has glazed expresssion and smells bad. Goes home once a year. Until then, stays in during the evenings, watching Indian films and cooking incredibly badly. Tends to travel in groups of twenty, of whom not one can string together a coherent sentence.
2. The Loner. Invariably male. Has worked in Bangalore, Cupertino and Dubai before landing up in Munich. Speaks snatches of twenty languages in the same toneless expression. Hair is either long and greasy, or else completely bald. Wears obvious resentment at being unable to acquire a girlfriend in any country or language on sleeve. Occasionally hires prostitutes. Is considering giving in to parents in Malad and having an arranged marriage.
3. The Paperless. Came from a small village near Chandigarh. Sneaked over on a tourist visa. Everything he knows about life outside his village he learned from Turks at the kebab shop. This includes dress, hairstyle, and trademark leer. Drives a taxi and attends Bollywood parties where he gets plastered on the cheapest hard liquor available.
4. The Business Couple. He sells indescribable goods and seems to do very well out of it. She does nothing. They have expensive clothes, bad taste, and an inexhaustible supply of conversation about apartments in Dubai.

There are good reasons why nobody wants to hang out with these people.

Man ur thought are ______________ (fill it by urself)

I think u never met the other kind, I was in Stuttgart for 9 months and I had the blast of my life time. Partying out with desi till 4 in the morning, rocking at trance club or getting drunk in hardrock café , or dizzing out in club 11.

I will recommend meet jojin in Stuttgart and ur thought about desi guys will change. The desis u are mentioning could be those ones who are exceptions..

I know one other kind of desis who are not mentioned by you.. They are

Not the 1st one from their city to go to college or to use condoms.
Not the ones who travel in group of 20. They hire merc or BMW to drive to alps with their Indian GF and family.
The ones who like their Indian culture as much they like the Italian pasta.
Who listen to IBNlive and CNN feed for up to date news around the world.
Who have a huge collection of rafi songs and they rock in hard rock café in Stuttgart.
Who own a PDA with 3.14 MBPS UMTS internet flat rate.
Who own a company patent for technology innovation.
Who earns better than a IAS yealy salary and have a life style in Germany.

If you want to meet desis like these better will be open your eyes and try to speak with other desis in the train. You might be shy to say hello to a mallu , Punjabi , Bengali or a guju but dear this could be the person whom I am talking about..

Smart desis are all over the world ,, and they too rock in Germany ,,,
drivethrucover
In my six years in Munich I must admit I have come across several instances of (1), (2) and (3) - neat summation by shockandhorror btw! You only have to take a look at the Great Indian Website to appreciate the quality of discussion in flawless English that goes on there biggrin.gif

I do know a few exceptions and these are the people I move around with wink.gif

Do I want to meet some of the "other" kind? Yes! Anyone out there?
der_dude
Ok ,, then let us plan the "other" type meeting ,, and there is no point of talking about 1.2.3 .

I really dont like big city complexes (unless i am clubbing ) or a indian food joint to meet ,, let us meet for a terk ,, or for a swim ,,, ( for swim there is lake near by in erding ,, i have been couple of times there, almost last 3 weekends wink.gif , great place for reading , hanging out or a open water swim )

just let the information flow fast enough ... so that everyone can find a slot in their tight plans ..
angelbeast
I am up for it too... if it does not happen on the weekend. I am travelling out of town on 05-06 Jul.

Ravski

madgibson
Er, yes that does make more sense...thanks for the translation:-)

I was totally unaware of the Desi Categories in Germany.

Hey lonely, paperless, (like your profile. Fill in your nationality ... if you are NOT an Indian), genderless, (are you a Mr/ Ms/ It?) stinky, eternally single, 70 year old virgin (that's your age right?) , IT Consultant working at a Kebab shop, born to "the" Business couple ... thanks a million for making me aware of the Desi Categories, three cheers to your autobiography!!!

May your “writing for making Germany a peaceful place continue forever!

Be warned though lest this board turn into a similar battleground biggrin.gif

Meanwhile, small a community as we are here, lets try not to slander each other in public at the very least.

right then Mr.drivethrucover, you better start hiding for cover soon.

Let me see...6 years in Munich and this is your first post. Shall we take it then you`ve been engaged by the "Great Indian website" all this while? stumble upon TT and think "here´s what I do, choose a boring cricket stroke as my name, slag off my countrymen try n fit in here instead" .If that wasn´t pathetic enough you even applaud the other twat shocknhorror on his ghastly post. That website is for an Indian community who feel comfortable posting there as they don´t want every word scrutinized. You have in all probability sold shit, bought, got info off that site. Who do you go running to when you need help? Germans? get off your high horses. dick!

So, these mates you "move around" with belong to this "other" type you want to get in touch with? And who might that be? just about anyone who feels sorry for a mug like you and befriend you in a foreign place. Categories indeed! Prick.

Not sure what der_dude is on about with his checklist but hey atleast he has good intentions.
der_dude
Sorry for the spellings about trek or terk ( u can find more things like that in my english smile.gif )…

is someone trying to see a big picture ? I guess no one..

You guys kept on fighting about the Indian breeds found in Germany and no one replied with a solid plan ,, no problem ,, too late ,,

I got my both days (Saturday and Sunday ) planned out for coming weekend,, hopefully on Friday I will be with some local friends at a reconstructed place for an evening.

( Also is it tough for me to reply from work place and at home sitting inside my room in front of computer is a big pain when you have lovely beer gardens everywhere with nice gentle wind and child drinks )

smile.gif

"I drink without any fear ,, I am not married and my mom is 7000 km away"

What about a bbq on sunday next week??

also if anybody who knows who is punjabi MC then Concert: Panjabi MC @ Oberanger Theater please follow the link ,, and if u need tips on how to dance on his beats then i have some tracks , also I can teach u some grovy steps...

You crack me up, sounds like a prefab bar/restaurant which is constructed each night, then knocked flat, only to be reconstructed again...anyway, don't mind me, carry on arranging your meetup!
