I'm looking for that good old fashioned bleach, to both wash your whites and erase that waxy yellow buildup in the kitchen, but can't seem to find it anywhere. Is it illegal here or something? I've found some Mild Bleiche made for washing clothes, but has the consistency of regular detergent, not that splashy clear liquid that always finds a way to ruin your favorite jeans in the US. Anyone have any hints?? Maybe there's a black market for it at one of the Vietnamese markets or something??

While I'm at it, anyone know where to find Bacon Bits / Bacos? After not eating salads for a year because I dry heave whenever I try to swallow any German salat dressing, I've finally imported some good old Ranch, Chunky Blue Cheese and Garlic Peppercorn from the US, but forgot about the Bacos and Croutons. Even some of those crunchy chinese noodles would be nice. yum yum yum.

I'm not sure if it's quite what you are looking for, but you could always try Domestos to be found in any common or garden supermarket or drugstore. It's basically bleach. I have used it to sterilise things and also to whiten my washing but not for getting rid of dirt in the kitchen.

Hope this helps.

I second the bleach thing...haven't been able to find any as yet.

Have you tried buying Speck (bits of fatty bacon) and frying them for the salad? Might be a good substitute, but not sure what 'bacos' are.

Where to 'score' bleach in Munich

You can also get 'DanKlorex' in Lidl.

Seems to be some kind of dried bacon thing.

I just but little packs of bacon bits like you suggested, UA, and fry them up. Gotta be nicer than what looks to me like that über-processed muck.

Or fry US-style bacon strips and crush/cut them when they've cooled down.

Look at Obi or your local DIY store for specific cleaning agents. I have a whole battery of limescale removers, grease removers, toilet cleaners, oven cleaners, you name it. Cilit Bang hates me but that is reciprocal as its fumes burned my oesophagus.

In Munich you can get Bacos in Karstadt Main Station food hall, they are not dried bacon, but bacon-flavoured bits of soy and are vegetarian. You might want to try KaDeWe or other deli types places for them. Or online from British Food Direct or the TT advertisers.

Bacos are definitely not something I miss.

I think you can also get Bacos in the American food section in Wertheim - I don't eat them personally but I think that I noticed them as they were quite cheap in comparrision to most of the items there - so you might find some without bankrupting yourself - alway nice.

I have seen bleach in regular super markets in the laundry area, but it is rare. A Turkish shop is probably the best bet. This is where I found mine.

I have heard it is not good for the environment, so I don't use it for laundry. German washing machines are much better so harsh chemicals aren't really necessary.

Good luck.

As someone mentioned, DanKlorix Hygeine-Reiniger is pure bleach. Tall blue 1.5 litre plastic bottle, white cap. Available in supermarkets and drugstores by the laundry detergents or cleaning supplies.
