Hello,
Just found this forum. I am an artist residing in the United States and am planning a trip to Berlin in hopes of finding a gallery to show my work. I would welcome any advice or information on the art scene in Berlin and would like to meet other people interested in the arts when I get there.

The 'Time Out' guide to Berlin has a very good section on art with a rundown of the best private galleries and info about local arty publications etc. If you can buy this at a local book store or if not thru amazon it might give you some ideas about good places to start.

Do you have a gallery that shows your work in the US? If not it might be very difficult, especially just through a trip. There are many many many artists in Berlin, also looking for galleries to show their work, and it can take years of building up a name through group shows and meeting the right people etc before something works out. I think a lot of people come here thinking that the art scene is primitive compared to their native country's, and that therefore it will be easier for them, but that's not necessarily true at all.

Hi:

I am a painter, art instructor and founder of Fort Point Studio School in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. (fortpointstudioschool.com).

I am hoping to visit Berlin in the fall to explore museums, galleries and research the possibility of forming a cultural exchange with an arts community similar to our own Fort Point Artist Community- (fortpointarts.org). Is there a centralized art scene of sorts in Berlin?

I'm also wondering if someone could recommend galleries in Auguststrasse/Mitte’s Art which focus on German figurative painters such as the Leipzig school? Is it advisable to visit Leipzig to see works by Neo Rauch and other painters of note?

Would anyone know anything about the Art Forum Fair in October or Berlin Biennale?

I would also like to visit Berlin University’s art academy and am wondering how to contact their painting department to request a guided tour?
Would anyone know of smaller Art Academies outside of the university system?

Many thanks,
Lisa

hi Lisa,

for Leipzig artists, check out Eigen+Art in mitte. Then go down to Leipzig and check out the Spinnerei. There are about 8 galleries there in a really neat old baumwoll factory, where the leipzig school developed, and i believe Neo Rauch has a studio there. Eigen+Art has another gallery there as well. I don't know much else about Leipzig-focused galleries in Berlin, if you find something let me know smile.gif

There is a shop in Alexa at Alexander platz that shows ans sells artwork from various different atrists. I have forgotten the name, i tried searching but zilch...

It was an interesting shop/gallery to chill out while friends are shopping.

About Biennale: It's happening right now, and I wanna visit it at this or one of the next weekend. Anything special you would like to know about? http://www.berlinbiennale.de/index.php?lang=en

For UDK (Universität der künste) it'd maybe best to contact the general information/press office: http://www.udk-berlin.de/sites/content/tar.../index_eng.html
