Moving to Ludwigsburg

Advice on housing, life, volunteering, jobs, etc.

My husband and I will be moving to Ludwigsburg June 1st. He will be doing research in nearby Marbach, however, we felt that Ludwigsburg was a better choice since it is a larger town yet still very close to Marbach. We have been looking for places to rent online (1-2 bedrooms, nothing too large and elaborate), but we're not finding much that will be available furnished. Does anyone have any suggestions? We'll only be there a year so we'd rather rent a place that has the basics (bed, couch, kitchen stuff, TV, etc) rather than purchasing major goods that we'll have to sell a year later. If no advice on furnished rentals, any suggestions on second-hand shops to buy basic essentials at a cheaper price? Places to buy used bicycles?

I was also wondering about things to do in the area (Stuttgart included). I will not be working but would like to do some type of volunteer work (or even a part-time job) while there. I am an experienced ER nurse and haven't found much in the way of nursing jobs close enough to where we'll be (hence the reference to not working).

Any other advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated (places to visit, good restaurants, places to avoid, things to do, etc). Thanks!

This doesn't really help you, but for your information, most flats in Germany come 'unfurnished'. It is very rare to find a flat that is already furnished. You may have to buy your own furniture and then sell it when you leave.

This is very true. But we do have an Ikea right here in Ludwigsburg, so it would be cheap to furnish a place. Ludwigsburg has many, many restaurants, some good, others okay, and only one or two that are great. No good Indian restaurants here. dry.gif Our Irish bar is a nice place!
Put simply. Ludwigsburg is a nice place to live, great place to raise kids. It is no Munich, but that is not a fair comparison.
