I'm interested for this Thursday!!! Are we gonna do a Toytown team again? It was quite profitable last year. I seem to remember that on at least three occasions we won enough prize money to pay for our food and drinks AND the taxi home.

I'm planning to be there, even though I usually only know about one question per week. Speaking of Toytown events, isn't it about time for another Toytown party?

Since our favourite fuckwit works in O'Reilley's (as far as we know), how about we have a competition to see who can wind her up the most without her catching on that it's us?
Any suggestions for a prize?

Malc, sorry to burst your bubble but she reads this site and would probably recognize some people from the pictures posted here and might have enough brain matter to put two and two together but good luck in trying. I wish I could be a fly on the wall.

OK, I'll revise my proposal:
We split into 2 teams: The first team consists of those who have allowed their cover to be blown by having their pictures posted on this forum. The second consists of those who were wise enough not to get their picture taken.
The first team's instructions:
Wind her up, playing on the fact that she knows who you are, the objective being to go as far as possible without getting booted out of the pub.
The second team's instructions:
Play the quiz without winding her up at all. In fact, behave completely normally, the objective being to make it through the quiz without being found out. You may, if you wish, quietly chuckle to yourselves as you see her trying to work out which team you are.
Obviously to give the 2nd team a fair chance of not being found out, neither team should give any hint that they know each other.
Finally, if by some freak coincidence nobody else turns up and we're the only teams there, we all bugger off to Killian's instead.
How's that sound?

Sounds good to me. Can I steal that lady's wig and be on team 2? Somebody explain the premise of this quiz to me will ya? Any chance that an American would know any of the questions? :?:
Malcolm Spudbury
Somebody explain the premise of this quiz to me will ya?
The quiz usually consists of several rounds (can't remember how many) of questions. There's usually a general knowledge round, a music round (they play clips of songs and you have to identify the artist & title), and a few rounds of some other random categories.
A point is scored for each correct answer, except in the music round where the scoring system is not very clear - sometimes it's 1 point for artist & title, sometimes 1 for artist and 1 for title. I guess it depends on the mood of the guy who checks the answers...
They also have a kind of sub-quiz around halfway through. This consists of answering a series of multiple-choice questions (3 or 4 I think). Teams answering a question wrong are knocked out (of the sub-quiz - it's not related to the main quiz). The teams that have answered all the multiple-choice questions correctly take part in the final round, where they ask a ridiculous question like "how many hours would you need to fart in order to generate the power equivilant to a nuclear explosion?". The team with the closest answer wins a round of drinks on the house.
Of course, they may have changed the format of it since last time, so don't quote me on any of that...

Not unless he/she is psychic or has managed to get a peek at them while the quizmaster wasn't looking

Oct 9 2002, 2:01 pm
I'm planning to get there between 7:30pm and 8pm, and I think several others are turning up at around the same time (the quiz starts at 9pm, but if you turn up after 8pm you'll be lucky to get a table - although it might be a bit quiet this time, as it's only just started up again). There will be too many of us for just one team, though.

You suggested it, yes - one team consisting of those who have had their pictures taken, the other consisting of those who haven't.
Unfortunately out of the 7 of us currently going, the only one who doesn't have a picture available is your girlfriend. If you want to send her off to another team, that's your call mate.

My point was that it is not possible for anyone except the people who know me to match my forum username with my visual appearance.
So if you're referring to Jake's pictures from the Toytown party, then yes, technically there are pictures of me available. However, the only reason that you know which pictures I'm in is because you already know what I look like...
Anyway, I'll be there between 7.30 and 8.00 to get a steak down my neck before the quiz starts, and I shall be most displeased if they have a repeat performance of the sorry-sir-no-steaks-tonight act that they had a few times last season...

But "a certain person" doesn't have to put a name to a face in order to work out that you're a Toytowner, particularly if there is more than one such person in the same team.
I had a steak in O'Reilly's on Saturday, and it was oh-so-fine - the best I've had there, without doubt.

Well, last night wasn't much of a success. Where were Hoddy and BeeSting when we needed them?
The "Americans In Munich" team won with 92 points. Our 2 teams were 5th and 7th (out of 8 teams) with 75 and 69 points respectively.
Jake McVitie
Oct 11 2002, 9:08 am
Was it the AIMers who won? I thought it was the GEA? Or were those two collaborating? Regardless, yeah, our performance was pretty dismal. But I guess the geriatrics are bound to have an advantage over us Toytown Tweenies. They've got many more years of general knowledge shared amongst them.

Oh, I thought that there was no chance an American would know any of the trivia. I did hear that the Bluegrass state was a question. That would be Kentucky, home of the derby. Good to know us Americans have some purpose in life other than to annoy all Europeans. Perhaps better luck next time them team.

So who's coming to the pub quiz this week?
Jake McVitie
Oct 15 2002, 5:51 pm
I'm not. I'll be there next week though.
And to answer Hoddy's question on behalf of Spud, no we didn't have any silent chuckles last week. Sarah, the cute californian waitress, told us that she-who-shall-not-be-named from that other-forum-that-shall-not-be-named was indeed behind the bar. But we never figured out who she was. The only other waitress looked way too young to have grown-up children. It was a bit of a mystery really.

I might turn up but need to know what time the festivities wrap up as I have to be at VHS by 9:00 am the next morning. I would like to be home no later than midnight and have about a 20 minute train ride from downtown Munich. Is it possible? :?:
Malcolm Spudbury

I think it usually finishes at around 11.30, but I can't remember for sure.
If you have to leave early, that's no problem. We'll just keep your share of the cash if we win

Sounds reasonable to me, I'll be there. Any clue what I should look for as I've never met you or A.M. Spud? I know you are loathe to reveal your identity so any code words or idosyncratic t-shirts would be helpful.
AquaticMeringue
Oct 15 2002, 9:34 pm
Don't worry Hoddy, despite what you may think about us trying to conceal our identities, we're actually perfectly normal people in real life.
I'll be the bloke dressed completely in black with a t-shirt that says "I'm smiling because they haven't found the bodies yet". I'll leave my axe at home, though.
Malcolm Spudbury
Oct 15 2002, 9:45 pm

AquaticMeringue

Good point about the team size. You'd better bring a spare t-shirt, just in case. Or at least be prepared to keep your jacket on all night.

Actually, Sarah said she was
at the bar. As far as I saw there was only one other girl working behind the bar and she didn't fit the profile.
She could have been lurking around the bar area as a customer. For all we know, she could have been in one of the other teams.

If your performance at last week's quiz was any indication, you need all the help you can get fellas. I'll be there early (7:00 pm) so as to get the best table and since you both know what I look like (really, cameras put at least 10 pounds on a person) I'll leave it up to you to find me.

Hoddy, if you're there early get the table in the left-hand corner at the left side of the pub after you walk in through the door.

So, what was the result last night? I assume from the lack of bragging that "we" didn't win? And did you see you-know-who? Was there any slapping going on?
Malcolm Spudbury
Oct 18 2002, 9:39 am
We managed to put in another incredibly dismal performance last night, coming about 6th or 7th out of 9 teams. If it's the same next week I don't think I can be bothered with it any more.
There was no slapping going on; no-one was making much effort to look for you-know-who anyway, despite the fact that when we turned up someone had put a "reserviert" sign on our usual table...
Jake McVitie
Oct 18 2002, 9:55 am
That was nice of her! To reserve your table for you. Or do you mean it was reserved for someone else?
Malcolm Spudbury
Oct 18 2002, 11:16 am
I'm not sure who it was supposed to be reserved for - there was no name on the sign. I just assumed it was you-know-who trying to stop us sitting there - it didn't occur to me that she could have been taking the piss by reserving the table for us.
Hoddy arrived before me and was sat at a different table already - if I'd been there first I'd have sat in the usual place anyway and moved the sign to another table...
