Hi,

I have got an admission for the full time MBA at EBS near Frankfurt. Needed an opinion of how good it is and how good/bad are the job prospects after an MBA in Germany. All opinions are welcome.

Thanks a ton guys!!

Hi Kartik,

I am not sure about the program at EBS. What I do know is that the first thing an employer looks at on your resume is your education.

Thanks Sherrie...but I was looking for more specific opinion on the MBA at EBS and/or how are the prospects of getting a decent job for MBAs in Germany .

Hey Kartik,

European Business School is a fairly well reputed business school in Germany, but compared to greater Europe, I'm not quite sure if it ranks so high. ESCP-EAP in Paris is excellent, and so is St Gallen in Switzerland, and ofcourse INSEAD in France.

Excluding the UK schools (LBS, Cambridge etc), it might be in the top 10 in continental Europe. Hope that helps.

Hey HG,

Thanks... would you have any clue of what avg salary levels can an MBA in Germany potentially look at. Also if speaking German would be essential.

Hi Kartik,

Since you have been offered a seat , why not write to the uni and ask for such information? Perhaps, they could put you across an alumni network. If you do manage to find out do let us know.
kartik
I have written to the Uni and have got positive feedback... wanted to get an outside opinion as well...

C`MON GUYS NEED SOME ADVICE...

Did you try IBS - Hyderabad. Its certainly better than this one, it is listed in the top20. The price converted is also around Euro 30000 all inclusive, whats the price at EBS?

And regarding placements you should already know that IBS has the record, in salary level (if that is the main AIM)

To be honest I don't know the school but just to comment to a couple of points made above.

- Prospects for MBAs in Germany seem to be good from the experience I have had so far, either by being here or by helping filter people here... I highly recommend doing one in general
- On the other hand, you are very young and the experience you will get from an MBA at this age will be less compared to waiting for 2-3 more years
- I disagree that the first thing an employer looks is your education rolleyes.gif ... depends on the job you are applying for and of course the personality of the employer. An MBA will draw attention and perhaps give you an interview opportunity easier than somebody else but that's it imho.
- With regards to the quality of the school, it's certainly not top10 in Europe as it doesn't rank amongst the top ones... you can easily check that in the links provided. However, rankings are not everything in an MBA. Talk with a few alumnis as Psmith suggested (not just one - alumnis tend to not be so objective about their school) and ask them as much as possible about environment, teamwork, support from school boosting projects, teaching methodologies. After lots of questions you get a feeling about how satisfactory the environment is and whether you want to be part of this.
- Salary levels are not dependent just on an MBA obviously but on the rest of the experience as well that allows you to apply for different positions. Obviously a 35 y.o MBA that may go for a sr. manager or director position will be looking at different salaries than a 24-25 y.o high potential who is just barely starting careers. Depending on industry and experience I would say you would be looking at 45k approx. as a starting point at the age of 25 on a local contract. Of course that can go up fast afterwards.
- At last as jackal accurately pointed out "if that is the main AIM", make sure you prioritize the right things. Big money is not everything so early in your career. You have several years in front of you before becoming rich rolleyes.gif

My recommendation is that you wait a bit longer... your post shows that you are not entirely sure about what you want to do and for what reasons. No need to take rushed decisions mate. An MBA can be the time of your life... once in a lifetime opportunity. You wouldn't want to mess it up biggrin.gif

Hey Apostolis...

Thank you for taking the time to write the reply. It is indeed sensible advice... thanks.

Salary is certainly not the main objective of doing the MBA...it is one of the important feature, only for the reason that I will be financing the MBA by a bank loan in India and I want to pay tht off asa the MBA is done. Thts the reason why my post was centered around the salary and probably the reason y u thought tht salary was my objective.

I agree tht I will be younger than the avg MBA. The EBS MBA is a fantastic program, although, and the course structure is very good. Its called the BRIC MBA. Although it will be the 1st MBA batch, I did speak to 4-5 alumnus who have done their masters from EBS and I have got a positive feedback.

You can see the program structure here...http://www.ebs.edu/index.php?id=2110&L=0

Im currently working with IIT(Bombay) as a research analyst. My work deals with economics and financial side of Photovoltaic power. This field is highly underdeveloped in India, Germany as you know is the world leader in this field. Studying in Germany will also help me sticking to this field.

HI Kartik,

In your case I would advise that you work initially before taking up the MBA. There is a lot of meaning in working before MBA and that is the reason all top MBA schools require compulsory working experience. But then if you are pursuing MBA initially to get a study visa to Germany and you want to then try for jobs, its ok. But I would still advise if a company feels they require they will sponsor your visa were ever in the world you are.

Can't really comment in detail on the EBS - I know the alumni are very active, and the network in Germany is considered by many to be valuable. Don't know much about the program quality, but would doubt that EBS would be recognised/highly valued outside of Germany. None of the German schools have made a real impression - Mannheim seems to be trying to join the big leagues through partnering with Kellogg (I think I read that somewhere), though.

Also want to support the idea of getting some solid work experience first. I'm not sure what your specific situation is, but based on what I've seen, having something substantial (not a few work-terms) to draw on and build on makes the MBA a better value. I still find it questionable when an MBA program considers people with little (<3-5yrs) work experience.
kartik
Hey...

My work experience is 3 and a half years...not sure if you would say that is good/high/long enough. Do u know alumni of EBS? Is it possible for you to put me in touch with one of them... I will be extremely grateful if that is done.

Thanks anyways...
