I am a visitor to Germany. In my next travelling plan, I will rent a Ferienwohnung near Garmisch-Partenkirchen and drive to visit Munich for 1 day. Then I have to decide which weekday is the best for visiting Munich? The option I have is Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Guess I need to consider the easiness (and also the cost) to find a parking palace in downtown areas. BTW, how is the parking in downtown charged? By the hours(if so, how much?), or they just charge me once for every time I park?
I shall say I am a fan to Bayern Munich, but I am not coming for the soccer game. Meanwhile, I have no plan to do shopping. Just visiting the monuments in the city will be OK.
Shall say thank you in advance for your any advice.

Bringing your car to the center of Munich is a very bad idea. You'd be much better of driving to somewhere like Wolfratshausen, parking the car in the park and ride car park and taking the S-Bahn. Use this website to find out more:

Jesus, are you so addicted to your car that you're actually planning your life around it? Why don't you just take the train from Garmisch-Partenkirchen like everyone else? A
Bayern Ticket costs €19 for one person or €27 for five.

parking in the inner city is expensive. on the street in some areas (if you're lucky to find a place at the weekend!) you can park for up to 2 hours at a cost of up to 5€. the multi-storey car parks are expensive.
I'd also recommend you take the Park and Ride service of the
MVV. Wolfsratshausen would be good from Garmisch I guess.

Thanks, I suddenly realized that parking in downtown is probably an unfeasible idea. Parking in a place nearby and take public transportation to downtown shall be OK for us. :-) Guess I need to look up the old map of Munich -- which I bought in the year 2003 -- and find out where winzerer strasse schwabing or Wolfratshausen is.
So talking about public transportation, does Munich have such day-ticket such as Paris has? That shall be more economical for the two of us, I guess.
BTW, I will not actually live in Garmisch, just some place close to it, therefore I need to find some place to park anyway. Better this place be free.

Wolfratshausen is the last stop on the train S7. you can drive there and park your car then take the train into town.
think you'll need a 'Partner-Tageskarte Gesamtnetz' not sure how much this is perhaps someone else knows.

To answer the original question: if you really do feel you want to drive into Munich then do it on a Sunday.

Partner Tageskarte for up to 5 people for the whole day and the whole
MVV area 18€. If you only need to drive around the inner city area it would cost 9€.
Park & Ride parking will be
cheap in comparison to that.

I love the idea of 'Munich downtown', I'll never look at the Rathaus again in quite the same way...
Take the train, it's much easier and you'll need a public transport ticket when you get here anyway, and without the car you can get stuck into
Hofbrauhaus and enjoy yourself...

To be honest, I am reading it. But therefore got confused. So many fares. Well, give me more time to let me figure out how to ask.

Ok, let's do an online tarif calculation support thread - how many of you are travelling, and what time will you want to be on the train?

2 of us, not youth any more. What time, let's say I am planning to get to Karlplatz on 10:45, so I might get to Wolfratshausen on 9:45, right?

You can use a Bayern-Ticket, as someone said, from 9am any week day, it's valid on all trains in Bavaria and it costs 27,00 Euro for up to 5 people. Then you can catch the train from Garmisch at around 9am which should have you in the centre by 10:30 (I didn't check the timetable). This ticket will also take you around Munich on the public transport in the city.

Or you drive to Wolfratshausen, park the car and buy a Partner Gesamtnetz tageskarte for €18 which will allow you to use the S-bahn and all the public transport in Munich.
