Here's a cut and paste from the
Another Country mail-out:

Tomorrow is World Freeze day, If we are going to have a good showing we still need people so come around tomorrow around 17:30, and if you can forward this email to anyone you think might want to come please do the more people the better.
Monday April first is
World Freeze We are planning a Freeze (if enough people are interested) at the Marheineke Markt Halle at 6pm for 5 min. We would meet at 5.30 at the bookshop and go over. Let us know if you can come and participate.
Check out the Grand Central Freeze HereSo anyway - potential mass amusement in a very un-German way. I'm going! Who's with me??

i wasnt taking the piss, im just trying to understand this. ive seen the grand central video, so you rock up, stand still for a bit then go away?
is there a debrief? does one get a certificate? is this a new way of becoming a celebrity? i have more questions than answers at the moment.
dceeg
Apr 1 2008, 11:27 am
Quite clearly you are taking the piss. Ya - everyone gets a certificate - it's recognised by the EU and everyone instantly becomes a celebrity also with a fancy car. Maybe
this will help your answers defecit. Otherwise I'm afriad I can't help.

OK, I just googled this, and found out there was one in Feb at the Alex Mall. Now I'm suspicious - is this an April Fool? I'm not showing up unless I can be fairly certain this'll actually happen.

As per the first post - as far as I know this is being organised by the
Another Country book shop. Turn up at the book at half five. A group will leave from there. If there's no group going from there and it is an April fool's well you can hang out at the book shop, drink a beer until movie time at half eight. There's no conspiracy here folks. No mystery. Go or don't go. It might be fun is all.

Wasn't the one in Alex in February a giant pillow fight? I would love to come, but unfortunately won't get home from work till after 8pm..
I think it will happen though, these flash-mobbing events just seem to be taking off over here, when they've been huge in the States and to a lesser degree London for a while now. Have fun if you do go

I posted it before but I'll post it again anyway. We did a
flash mob in Munich in 2003.

spacecadet
Apr 1 2008, 3:50 pm
no - don't think so, the meeting place is at Another Country (the bookshop in
kreuzberg) so the nearest stations is Gneisenaustrasse (sp?) I think, have fun

I think I was at that, wasn't there a further caveat about bringing an umbrella, or was there another flash mob on Marienplatz earlier in the summer?

a resounding success by all accounts.

Pb, yes, that flashmob was originally going to be "bring your own umbrella". But we abandoned that idea in favour of something simpler without props.

It's not very flash if you post it days in advance. Just mob.

Apr 2 2008, 10:00 am
Well no one was threatened or lynched. No shops were looted. No grannies were mugged. So "just mob" might be a bit harsh.

Can anyone tell me how the April 1st 'freeze mob' went? Did folks show up? Did it go ahead? I'd love to hear about it - and if any more are planned.
Thanks.

It went ahead. Though our numbers were small. Maybe ten or twelve people took part. Not exactly Grand Central - but it was fun. As usual lots of people who promised to go didn't show! I'm not aware of any more being planned but I guess I'll post it here if I hear of one! Unfortunately, those that were supposed to video it were among those that didn't turn up - so we've no photographic evidence! Unless the market is willing to relinquish their CCTV footage.

damn! just missed this

is there a website or some organization that starts things like these in berlin? i'd love to be a part of it, just like i was in nyc-- most of the flash mobbing and random fun events are hosted/organized by improveverywhere.com
