My husband has been offered a job in Berlin for €50,000 net per year and we are trying to decide whether he should take it or not. We would be moving to Berlin from London. We have a 1 year old child and neither of us speak German. After tax, would this be a decent salary for Berlin (does not include health insurance) and we would like to live around the Prenzl'berg area. We would obviously have to find a flat in Berlin from the UK and then ship all our furniture over and we don't want to make the move unless it is worth it. I know there is a similar thread running at the moment, but how much would he get after tax and how much would we have to put aside for health insurance for the whole family (3 of us)? We also need to know how we would go about renting a flat since all our documents are British (pay slips etc), we would have no bank account in Germany and the only thing we would have in German would be the job offer from his company confirming pay etc. If anyone can advice, we'd really appreciate it!
Just to add, I also want to know if I will be able to put our one year old into kindergarten and if so, how much will it cost? Here in the UK people pay anything from £500-£1000 for a month (mon-fri) all day. Does the German state fund kindergarten places or would we have to pay? Where can I find out this information?

search in the "Life in Germany" sections, many of your questions will be answered. For taxation check the finance sections of this forum.
Childcare cost is much lower here than in UK, what you pay depends on your salary. I think the max in Berlin is 375 EUR for full time kindergarten Mon-Fri, the private ones not much more expensive. They take 1y olds, depends on Kita/Kindergarten. Prenzl´berg has too many babies, not enough kindergarten places.
Does your husband company offers relocation service. They should then help you finding a flat + paperwork. The salary you mention above is net, so it is after tax, oder?

For a 1 yr old child, you can apply for "Kinderkrippe" (children there are from 6 months to 3 yrs old). Places are harder to get and more expensive compared to Kindergarten (2-6 yr old kids), and I don't know about the going rates in Berlin.
