Finding an interim job before getting work permit

Is it possible to do this in Berlin?

Hi there,
I'm moving to Berlin this summer. I know that it is really difficult to find a job
if you don't speak fluent German. I can speak German but I'm not fluent yet...
Is it possible to work something (babysitting...etc) until you find a real,official job
and then you can have your work permit arranged? Thanks!

surely that's about to change though? Hungary became part of the Schengen area in January

Yes but Germany is not willing to change the restrictions until about 2011.
We have to apply for residency and work permits...
