Hacker group publishes politician's fingerprint - Germany

Wolfgang Schäuble, Secretary of the Interior
Malcolm Spudbury
German hacker group Chaos Computer Club has published the fingerprint of Wolfgang Schäuble (German Secretary of the Interior) in a protest against Germany's use of biometric data.

Discussion on Slashdot: Hacker club publishes German official's fingerprint.

QUOTE
The club has been active in opposition to Germany's increasing push to use biometrics in, for example, e-passports. Someone friendly to the club's aims captured Schäuble's fingerprint from a glass he drank from at a panel discussion. The club published 4,000 copies of their magazine Die Datenschleuder including a plastic foil reproducing the minister's fingerprint — ready to glue to someone else's finger to provide a false biometric reading. The CCC has a page on their site detailing how to make such a fake fingerprint. The article says a ministry spokesman alluded to possible legal action against the club.

Legal action?
Wolfgang Schäuble had publicly stated storing fingerprints carries no privacy concern.
He is trapped in his own dialectic.

this is a great step by chaos computer club. if the politicians really dont see any privacy problems they should all just send their fingerprints to the CCC. on the other side if they start some legal actions then they are really cornered. looking forward to hte next days to see what happens on this.

The CCC are a bunch of nerds, they have made an excellent point, politicians cannot start legal actions but it is still too technical, it does not reach the masses. They should have created a pop icon. Here my humble contribution smile.gif

What legal action? Schäuble's on public record as saying anyone can have his fingerprints.

You do realize that you responded to a 4 month old post that was pretty much dead. .Right?

Excellent work. With Schäuble wanting a camera in each and every German household, I sure wanna know who this guy is.
Does anybody know where he resides?
