Hi, so I heard there are lots of turks living in Berlin and I was wondering if anyone's ever seen turkish instrument shops (perhaps in k'berg/neukolln)?
I am really interested in learning the baglama/saz and was wondering if I could find one without having to head down to Turkey. Thanks in advance

I think that this shop in Moabit sells saz.

I could be wrong and they only give lessons, but I am fairly sure that they are selling instruments. BTW, note the fairly late opening times.

saz

If at some point you do go to Turkey for music related purposes,, I know an American guy, from a different forum, who lives in Istanbul and is a saz player (and teacher too?). Just let me know and I'll try to set you up in contact with him.

Changed the course of my stroll a little yesterday to go past the shop. According to their storefront, they sell both saz and baglama.

And they are closed on Mondays.

I must admit that I'm envious. If I only had more time - and a *lot* more musical talent - I'd learn the saz.

Hello,
There are two major forms of this instruments; one with a short fingerboard (kisa sap - baglama) and the other is with a longer finger board (uzun sap). The technique of each one is really different. The sound and the music tastes different with each one. I would say a saz with a short finger board sound better and technically demanding. The songs that are played with baglama are more liked. But First you should decide what kind of a Saz you want to purchase. I guess I may help you about this subject and this saturday I will go to Turkey for 1 week.

I have checked out the link;

When press on ürünler (products) you will see what they sell.
Choose baglama on this page.
There is a baglama made of mulberry. It may be good. But never decide before trying the instrument. Each one is unique with different bass and tones.

thanks so much for your help!!

since i am a real beginner i probably will look into the saz with longer finger board (uzan sap?).

unfortunately the berlin saz shop only give lessons in turkish and german. so even if i do purchase a saz i will have to learn it myself which to me is a scary thought.. i just play the guitar a little, maybe i'll have to learn german super fast so i can start taking saz lessons there.
